Lol! There is no problem in accepting one is better than other, say China is better than India when it comes to universities. Or the US is better than China and so on. You can only improve when you have a target to achieve rather than sitting here complaining about what others think or feel.

Only a few countries are doing better when it comes to that, and neither India nor Pakistan is doing any better.

It's a bit surprising,

Amritsar is relatively a rich town with many multi millionaires / industrialists among its citizens. Even the common Amritsari is quite weill to do. One would be hardpressed to find a single beggar in the whole town. But it surprises me why they still persist with having man operated tricycle rickshaws till date.

I think your original post was somewhat misleading. Hand-pulled rikshaws are only limited to Kolkata. What was shown in the video were bicycle-pulled rikshaws. The reason why they are so popular is that they are versatile and can better navigate certain areas than automobile traffic, and they are relatively cheap. And you are correct that most people do not want to do certain kinds of work, but than again, all work is hard. I think pulling rikshaws is not as hard as digging ditches at construction sites in the Florida heat for example. As for how much they make, you would be surprised at how much rikshaw pullers can earn at major tourist locations such as the Golden Temple.

oops, these do not look worse than that video of a town in KP you posted. If anything they look much better. I would go further and say they are far better than what is shown in that video of Lahore. And keep in mind theres are relatively small tier 2 and 3 cities.

No, trying to compare two regions using videos is cherry picking.

Statistical data, despite it's drawbacks is the best way to compare the living standards. And we know why most Pakistanis don't do that.

The better living standards of indian Punjab is evident from the fact that IMR is far less than that of Pakistan. Will one video change this ?

Isn't it downright pathetic that Pakistanis have to compare one of their largest cities with a small tier-6 town in one of the poorest regions of the country near the border of Nepal to satisfy their ego? The video you posted is from 8 years ago. Things can change a lot in 8 years. The video's I posted are from the present. Furthermore the video you posted appears to be 'locked' in one location and the camera is sniffing at the dirt. The video's I posted are from a perspective of a person ambulating randomly through the streets of old Amritsar. I did not go out of my way to find the disparaging video's of Indian street life. If you want I can and trust me for every speck of dirt you will find I will give you a mountain. When it comes to filth India towers over Pakistan and even the dirt we have is on account of the 'rubbish' from your side of the border.

What is obvious is that after all the hair spliting we can conclude there is -

  • fcuk all differance between Amritsar and Lahore or Indian Punjab and Pakistani Punjab.
  • Amritsar and Old Lahore are about 10 miles apart. Same people, same culture, same language.
  • Indian Punjab is not the poorest part of India but one of the more prosperous regions.
  • Pakistani Punjabi is almost 50% of Pakistan so it pretty well defines it and is typical of PK.
  • Indian Punjab being prosperous yet comparable to PK Punjab is atypical of India as it only makes 2.5% of it.
  • Old Lahore and other old towns in Pakistan are as narrow and congested as most Indian urban areas but we don't have rickshaw pullers or cycle rickshaws because we banned them in 1959 as insult to human dignity.
  • All Indian cities, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata etc had rickshaw pullers. Only over the last decade they have been 'moving' up to cycle rickshaws. Indeed India had millions working as rickshaw pullers until recently and the practice still persists.
So what is the take away from all this. There is practically no differance [other then man pulled rickshaws] between one of India's most prosperous regions - Indian Punjab from the largest province in Pakistan [PK Punjab]. I won't even bother looking at the huge poverty swamps like Bihar, Jharkhan, Odisha and huge swathes of Utter Pradesh which collectively have upwards of 300 million people - more then all of Pakistan.

So this raises the question that why do we get Indian's snorting about the trillion dolla this and trillion dolla that? They way you people talk is as if over the border in Amritsar it resembles Norway and over the border in Pakistan it resembles like Somalia? That was the point of this thread. To show you people that as you cross the Durand Line into Indian Punjab the only visible differances are -

  • Men pulling or cycling rickshaws
  • More women walking about
  • More cows idling about
And here is your choice Austro-Aboriginals. Afghanistan is heaven by comparison.

indian punjab is doing prettywell, but it is far from thw wealthiest region of India. Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Maharahtra, Goa, Guratat, Himachal, and uttarakhand are far more prosperous among others. Chandigarh and dehli are also pretty wealthy. However, I am pretty sure punjab is pak's wealthiest province. And i already showedvideos of chhattisgarh, jharkhand, and odisha that do not look very different from many parts of lahore. Keep in mind it is unfair to compare those regions with punjab. A more accurate comparison would be with kp amd balochistan. And as you see in those vdeos they are not much different if not better tjan kpand balochistan.

i do agreethat amritsar and lahore are retty much the same. even in the comments of the video many pakistanis were saying that.

Punjab's GDP per capita is still lower than India's GDP as a whole. Interestingly, I was wrong about Punjab being the wealthiest Province in Pakistan, that award goes to Sindh. In 2017 Punjab had a gdp per capita 0f around 1580, while Sindh had approximately 1750, compared with India's GDP per capita of approximately 1800. The only region of Pakistan that surpasses that is the capital territory of Islamabad, which has a GDP per capita of approximately 3000, which in turn is lower than Dehli, which has a gdp per capita of 4600, and Chandigarh, which has 3400. You can argue that the discrepancy is due to the dominance of the "informal economy" in Pakistan, but these statistics align with rankings such as HDI that measure human development. As for your question about what is "average" for India, that is a good question. You could say India's major cities such as Mumbai, Dehli, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad count, but you can also argue that the majority of Indians live in rural areas and smaller cities, so it is harder to show the average. The same question applies to the US. What is the "average" American town? Is it New York or Kansas City or Orlando, Florida of Greenville, Mississippi? Similarly Indian cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru have areas that can match cities such as London and New York in terms of Infrastructure, cleanliness, and beauty. But than a couple miles away, you have thousands of people living in slums under downright horrible conditions. I think it is safe to say neither of those represent the "average" As to your question about what is "average" of India, I would say the videos I posted of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand come close. If anything, they are slightly below the bar.

mate that's an old video of Amritsar from 2014 you've posted. The area surrounding the Golden Temple just under went a major redevelopment. As you can see no more vehicle traffic leading up to the temple. The cost of redevelopment was 400 crores and was completed in 300 days!

That was kind of my point. It is very easy to cherry pick different locations to make things look better or worse than they are. For example I could compare Navi Mumbai with Greenville, Mississippi and say India is better than the US. Similarly, I could compare Islamabad to Gorakhpur and say Pakistan is better than India, Or I could compare Chandigarh to Quetta and say vice versa. To be honest the "average" for India and Pakistan is not too different. Also, the original video of old Amritsar you posted does looks similar to the "average" India from my personal experiences. I have also posted videos of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh,a and Odisha that should give you an idea of what "average" or slightly below average for India looks like.
