I just had an epiphany that although, my grandfather didn't speak Pashto, his looks and views were exactly like the conservative tribal elders.

i need to point out few things

1) taliban mind set is the child of this tribal mind set

2) what did jirga so called the best democratic system which provides everything and doesnt need a pakistani government's help achieved in stopping the menace of talibans

3) there is so much intolerance in jirga as can be seen that when they were argued with logic they stood up and left

4) elders in pashtun societies want to keep hold of their societies, they dont want young blood to grow up or considered an equal voice

5) the jirga system actually divided pashtuns into several tribes, there is a separate jirga for every tribe

6) it isolates one pakistani society with another

7) jirga system is the closed narrow minded mind set which makes people stick to their traditions rather then change according to the demands of the modern world

its because of this that pashtuns reject every modern thing and thats why you can see very less development in tribal areas

8) if a pashtun goes out into karachi he brings this plague with him and we can see jirga system even in the modern cities like karachi

9) the issue is not about islam, its about pashtun traditions, and these guys living isolated in the mountains are so resistant to change because they fear that if any change is brought, it will bring evil to the societies just like the amish people

i appreciate that musharraf brought people to dialogue with these intolerant, narrow minded people well actually some ground work was done in order to bring the FATA area back into pakistan

but from this video it seems like a very far fetched goal

the societies have grown up from tribal into civilised societies i dunno since when has pashtun society stuck in a tribal society dark ages maybe

in conclusion: the pashtuns of FATA should realise how far the world has got an grow up from this amish attitude, it can only be achieved is modern communication system and development reach these isolated areas and slowly these elders will lose their grip on their people and people will be freed

only proper education can evolve these tribal and backward segments of the society into mainstream modern day society... alot to be done with force, however, I see no capable men in the top leadership who are willing to take up the task.

I was reading about the wildwest, this tribal society seems an upgraded version of that culture... only here they misuse the word of Allah to cover up their own backwardness !
