MIRPUR:
Ashura was peacefully observed across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) in line with tradition. Alam, Zuljinah and Taziya processions were brought out from imambargahs in all 10 district headquarters including Mirpur, Muzaffarabad, Havelian, Hattiyan, Kotli, Bhimber, Bagh, Sudahnoti, Rawalakot and Neelam Valley.
There has never been any incident of sectarian violence in AJK since its liberation from the Dogra ruler in 1947. Interfaith harmony is witnessed on religious occasions and festivals. Commenting on the traditional brotherhood among Muslims in AJK, a Sunni scholar and former chief justice of AJK High Court Justice (retd) Majeed Mallick said, “Muslims have traditionally enjoyed close social relations. “Historians have recorded this unique characteristic of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and attributed it to the fair weather. Kashmir’s has proven to be the most socially cohesive and prejudice-free civilisation.”
Religious scholars belonging to all sects said the struggle against tyranny initiated by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) has to be carried forward. They urged people to rise above sectarianism and forge unity in their ranks.
The people of Jammu and Kashmir will carry on their gallant struggle, till the day, they force India to quit their sacred soil, with the same spirit, as demonstrated by the faithful at Karbala, said a noted scholar. “The best way to pay homage to the martyrs of Karbala is to vow to work for freedom of Kashmiris across the Line of Control.
