MOSCOW - Pakistan and Russia may devise out a land route for future trade which will be cheaper source of transportation and help selling products at competitive prices. This was stated by Syed Mazhar Ali Nasir, senior vice president of FPCCI, while speaking at the Institute of Oriental Studies Moscow, Russia.

The FPCCI delegation is on a visit to Russia to meet the counterparts in Moscow and to participate in the SCO Business Forum scheduled at St. Petersburg. He further said that with the advent of WTO regime the global economic scenario has changed. The motives have been shifted from political to economic need and the nations, which once had irritants on political grounds, are emerging as close friends at economic fronts, he added.

While addressing an event, he said that economic relations between Pakistan and the Soviet Union established in the early 1950s witnessed aggressive progress when the Soviet Union agreed to import cotton, jute and leather.

Both the countries established an oil consortium in 1958, and the Soviets expressed readiness to establish Pakistan’s first Steel Mills in 1961.

He further stated that the governments of Pakistan and Russian Federation have intensified their interaction. Now it is time of private sector to capitalize these efforts.

Both members of FPCCI and Federation of Russian Chambers of Commerce and Industry may try their utmost to expand bilateral trade relations up to the optimum level. He also said that both the countries should remove existing irritants in the bilateral trade and private sectors should make serious efforts to avail the opportunities at the optimal level. Pakistani Ambassador Qazi Khalilullah also attended the event.

It's called CAREC...unfortunately since Afghanistan is a complete disaster, CAREC and CPEC will have to merge. This is another reason why the United States is intent on remaining in Afghanistan and making sure it remains a disaster. This Pakistan-Iran-Russia-China bloc being created in Asia has not been met with glee in Washington.

It's already been done. Pakistan and Tajikistan both agreed to bypass Afghanistan. Ideally, Pakistan and Tajikistan should promote Badakshan separatism as much as possible. Just a few weeks ago this happened.

Tajik leader Dr Latf Pedram "If the central government does not pay attention to our demands, we will declare Badakhshan province independent and self-governing".

Badakshan is the panhandle that seperates Pakistan from Tajikistan. It was a colonial mistake in order to separate British from the Soviets. I say we correct it.

If you want to "occupy" anything, start by promoting an independent Badakshan out of Afghanistan.

Why be so aggressive man just make a road through Wakhan Corridor and start land route to Russia. Afghan has no resistance. Iran is under US sanctions and Afghanistan needs sea route to get and goods coming into country. The way is paved and in front of you.

Russia already has roads and railway links with China, just connect those to CPEC and WALAA'...there's your trade route.

You can't make a road without Afghan approval. Furthermore, even if Afghanistan agreed, they cannot guarantee its security. There is no question any convoy passing through an Afghan controlled Badakshan will be attacked...and don't think for one second NATO/American controlled Afghanistan is going to allow these corridors to be built or to peacefully allow trade to occur through it.

Until we get a regime in Kabul that's pro-Pakistan (pro-Iran, China, Russia in essence), it's not happening.

At present the only option is:

a. Bypass Afghanistan
b. Support Badakshan separatism

An independent Badakshan would welcome these trade routes and would be able to guarantee its security. Kabul at present is essentially City Hall...beyond the capital, the government has NO WRIT and NO POWER.

Give it 2 more month and Afghans will be pro who ever you want. The security can be guaranteed in Wakhan it is not that big problem.

dude, forget afghanistan...just use the preexisting link between China and Russia. We shall punish afghanistan for all of its notorious haram khori by not letting them have even the crumbs from the CPEC pie.

well dont need to take over afghanistan just that makhan strait (if thats the correct name) and we will have direct access to centeral asia and russia!

That's not cheap...the direct route to Russia would involve passing through Afghan territory. Less distance = less fuel = less cost.

Ideally, the best option is Badakshan (Wakhan corridor), which is the narrowest strip. I think it's 60 kilometers from the Pakistan border to the Tajikistan border. The less of Afghanistan you have to travel through, the better.

And enough of this punishing Afghanistan nonsense. We share many similarities in culture, food, history, religion and ethnic groups. No point of bickering on like this. Neighbours should behave like neighbours, not enemies. I agree though, the current Afghan regime is a joke, but they are not representative of the population.
