Timeline - 1962

Although it's not officially confirmed, I personally it's very possible. Especially China show tremendously sincerities to solve all land border disputes in 2000s(and China did solved all land disputes expect with India).

What are India's domestic opinions towards this border dispute? Hawkish or pragmatic

Two things: first, the present leadership is neo-Maoist, and I don't think any genuine chances of success in dispute resolution exist. Second, domestic opinion on this in India is quite hawkish. Making them accept any peace treaty is an extremely difficult proposition. They have to be beaten on the head to accept any proposal, however sincerely made.

Yes, but Xi is also pragmatic.
But anyway not possible in near future with current situation anyway.

I lived through that; I was twelve then.

That, unfortunately, will lead to nuclear war. Pakistan can, at best, use it in her own territory.

We can discuss this, separately, on another thread.
ok start a thread. but i dont think pak is that stupid to launch multiple nuclear weapons on its own territory due to the fear of getting nuked at the hands of india. if we do it as you say then india will be the clear winner. we lost our military, our civilians, our villages and cities close to border through our own nukes and india lost just few thousand soldeirs, tanks etc. no one can predict how nuclear war will unfold but if pakisani military is already planning to use nukes on its own soil out of fear of indian retaliation then we should already award them gold medal and 21 gun salute to their "visionary" planning.

It is a long story, and you have to remember that the PLA in 1962 fought only a small part of the Indian Army, around 3 brigades in the NEFA/Arunachal Pradesh area, another brigade in Ladakh/Aksai Chin.
who stopped india from doing adequate preparation before the war??? wa that a rule in the war that india wont bring more army inthe conflict? i am sure not. it is just like indians were saying on 27 feb that PAF outnumbered them that's why IAF got defeated. IAF has lot more planes at its disposal but they were unprepared and managed ot scrammble only few.

I am really astonished to find such a post, and endorse it totally.
This rule applies to many other conflicts as well. Elite make the proverbial rules and it is foot soldiers that bear the brunt of their whims. speaking from personal experience..

This documentary is very fair and neutral ... definitely the best 1962 war documentary on Youtube by far. I have to admit it was very sad to see the veteran so angry/disheartened about the unilateral ceasefire after spending weeks fighting through the Bailey trail. You could really see his anger at Mao's publicity stunt ... he was so mad he even admitted if it were up to them, they would just shoot the POWs rather than give them such excellent provisions. I mean who can blame him. Having to not only give up all your hard fought gains but also treat POWs better than how you are treated in the army would be very tough for anyone.
The footage is one we never have seen before including POWs and how they did it.

Have you read up on that war? At all?

Let me understand this.

Pakistan, having developed tactical nukes, will use it in Indian territory, because using it in Pakistani territory will cost casualties of military, civilians, villages and cities?

And what do you suppose India will do? Allow Pakistan to invade her territory and explode tactical nuclear devices, and lose military, civilians, villages and cities close to the border, and just walk back home?

No. as i said before that it is impossible to predict exactly how events will unfold in a nuclear war. but most likely if one country uses nukes then the other one will respond and it will result in total destruction. we can only speculate and using tactical nukes on own territory is just one speculation and it doesn't come from horse's mouth either that pak is following that policy of using nukes on its territory. we are just looking at the consequences of this one speculation. lets suppose pak has come to use nukes on its own territory after losing to indian military. then indian army will most likely ingress into pak all across the border and not at one place. so we will have to use multiple nukes at so many places to halt indian ingress. now we get the results of our nukes india halts further aggression the UN intervenes and both countries move back to pre war border. at that point what will be the extent of damage on both sides.??
pakistan.... lahore, sialkot, bahawalnagar gone, hundreds of villages gone, million population got killed ,2-3 lac military gone along with military hardware and the border areas and cities will be uninhabitable for the next 100 years. and guess what who did most of the damage here??? pak military. .....wow.
india.... about 1-2 lac military gone along with military hardware.
india will be the clear winner here in this situation. they will laugh at us that they made us so scared that we used nukes on our own territory and at our own people. it will be even a greater embarrasement for pak military then 71. our nuclear threat will be over for ever.
this idea of using nukes on pakistani soil is the most defensive rather cowardly tactic we can employ. if at all we are going to use nukes then use them aggressively. be ready to kill and get killed. nuclear war means end of subcontinent and that's why i always say that the chances of indo-pak war are close to zero.

definitely not. got better things to do. i commented about only what that video says and in the video the indian expert said that now india is also gearing up and is doing necessay preparation that in case there is another war they dont get caught unprepared "again". that means lack of preparation on indian side in 62. i am sure the experts in the video know far more then any of us.

LOL.

No, I don't think that the experts in the video know far more than any of us.

Let me remind you - you started talking about tactical nuclear devices. The use of tactical nukes on your own soil will not - may not - bring retaliation from India. The use of tactical nukes on Indian soil will definitely bring full-scale retaliation, with regular nuclear bombs, not miniature, tactical bombs. That is the difference. So the effort to seem manly will guarantee massive retaliation.

Think about it.

Probably most China member in PDF are favorable of Mao.
But Mao is very controversial in China as well.
There are endless online wars about it in China back to the time when I was young enough to be one of the keyboard warriors, LOL

Entire China favors Mao, but also acknowledged his mistake. Nothing controversial. Deng's economic reform wouldn't be possible without the groundwork laid by Mao. Anyone coming from China would know, I don't even need to explain. You're clearly not from China, but some Southeast Asia countries. That you even need Indian's validation of Mao is just as telling as your feeble knowledge on Askai Chin. Fake.
