Three Bangladeshi soldiers have been injured in Central African Republic in an ambush by a rebel group on a UN peacekeepers’ convoy.

The Inter-Service Public Relation Directorate (ISPR) on Friday said one of the “critically” injured had immediately been transferred to a hospital of the French camp.

Two others were being treated by the Bangladesh medical team, the military’s media wing added.

The ambush on the United Nations Multinational Integrated Mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA) convoy on Thursday also killed a Pakistani peacekeeper.

However, Deputy Force Commander of the MINUSCA Major General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed of Bangladesh who was also in the convoy escaped the ambush unscathed, the ISPR said.

The convoy came under attack at 6:05pm at a place approximately 1.5 kilometres away from a MINUSCA transit camp while it was returning from MINUSCA Force Headquarters.

Sainik Md Iqbal Hossain of 18 BIR was immediately evacuated to a French hospital at MPOKO camp after he had sustained critical wounds.

Hossain, son of Md Golam Mostafa, is from Mukundpur of Satkhira district.

Two others injured were Sainik Jasim Uddin of 29 BIR, and Sainik Moazzem Hussain of 23 East Bengal Regiment.

Jasim Uddin, son of Md Hasan Ali, is from Barguna district’s Naltona and Hussain, son of Abdul Malek, hails from Jhalakathi district’s Murafata.

“They are now in stable condition,” the ISPR says.

Damn the UN, they send these men to do peace keeping job, then tie their hands. The army needs to take a strong action against the perpetrators fast.

These so called peacekeepers are actually sitting ducks. UN never gives them order to do anything they basically just sit there and wallow in the shade. Which is why UN is basically useless organization

Mate, the entire peacekeeping missions are completely voluntary, no nation or organizations can force some soldier to take part in UN peace keeping mission. The only reason soldiers from South Asia like Bangladesh, India and Pakistan take part in these missions are because UN gives better pay, and benefits compared to the army at home. As for the soldier I hope he gets well, and RIP for the fallen soldier.

I think we all know that, thanks for the update though. The rules of action are to restrictive though, it ties the peacekeepers hand and allows these sort of incidents.

What "peace" keepers? BA are there for making money, knowing the risk involves. As any mercenary does.
