Can there be a limit for how long a thread can remain open for comments? I see 5 year old threads being bumped over and over again.
May be threads should auto lock after a certain period of time?

I had also suggested in some other thread that old threads should get auto-archived and a mod's permission must be required if they are to be reopened.

Old is Gold

I think if a thread remains active then its ok
but if no one comments on it for s specific time period then lock it

^ No, some old threads are important like sleeping volcano

Look at this thread: http://www.defence.pk/forums/bangladesh-defence/22410-bangladesh-gunfight-bdr-headquarters.html

It's an old thread and it has been sleeping for long time. I bumped it few days ago as soon as I got new news about that. Also there is a possibility of opening double threads on the same topic if old threads are locked. On the other hand, it's pleasure to discuss on old threads sometimes. So if some one has nothing with an old thread then he can skip that - I think.

first i thought its a good idea....then I said no, BAD IDEA

Some disadvantages

1) While creating a new thread, usually we find similar threads and if old threads are locked after a certain amount of time, it will be very difficult to trace any open thread discussing the same issue

2) Some news are not updated regularly.... for example look at this thread

http://www.defence.pk/forums/econom...-entertainment-resort-opening-next-month.html

This thread had a project details in the first post, then after couple of months ,we found updates so we posted in the same thread, after some months again we posted and discussed the issue topic, updated our knowledge etc

If this rule is applied, we may have 10 threads discussing samething in bits n pieces.... Its better if we could post everything in the same particular thread even after the months of its last post....so its like a chain that is doing better job

think about nuclear reactors we are purchasing, missile technology, space program etc.... all of these threads exists in its dedicated section and many peoples don't reply there until a latest news is revealed

and so many other disadvantages
