When asked if he was ready to give up his awards much like those over the past month, Shah Rukh Khan said he would, in a symbolic gesture if asked to.

Shah Rukh Khan, who turns fifty today, took questions from his Twitter fans.
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan turned 50 today and added his voice to growing protests by the intelligentsia over ‘climate of intolerance’, saying there was “extreme intolerance” in the country.

icing his feelings over the ‘growing intolerance’ and return of awards by filmakers, science and writers, Shah Rukh said he would not hesitate to give up his awards as a “symbolic gesture” if he has to but feels he does not have to do so. Padma Shri is among the awards in Shah Rukh’s kitty.

“There is intolerance, there is extreme intolerance… there is I think… there is growing intolerance,” Shah Rukh told India Today TV. “It is stupid… It is stupid to be intolerant and this is our biggest issue not just an issue…Religious intolerance and not being secular in this country is the worst kind of crime that you can do as a patriot,” he said, Asked whether he will give up his Padma Shri award, Shah Rukh responded, “I mean just for a symbolic gesture, yes, if I have to.”

At the same time, he said, “respect those who returned awards, but I don’t have to.” “People put words into the air even before thinking and here is a secular country. Here is a country perhaps for the last 10 years that is on the cusp of going beyond what we think,” Shah Rukh, said elaborating his views on the growing intolerance.

Shah Rukh also responded to criticism about actors not participating in the protest and raising their voices. He stressed that being a star, it was tough for him to take a stand on every moral issue. “We may talk about freedom of speech, but people come outside my house and throw stones…\:lol:” “If I do take a stand, I’ll stand by it,” he stressed. The star also said that no one can and should ever question his patriotism. “We will never be a superpower if we are not going to believe that all religions are equal,” he added. To wish the actor on his milestone event, his fans started gathering outside his bungalow ‘Mannat’ since the wee hours of morning.

SRK should know that if by extreme intolerance his movies will be extreme dud at box office.
If one is secular, I beg to ask, what he has done for Indian populace? When there was Tsunami or floods in Uttaranchal and J&K, he did not do a single charity show, while Vivek Oberoi came to Chennai and stayed here till he completed the housing projects for the Tsunami affected.
When his movie was threatened by Shiv Sena, his fans came to theatres to protect the movie from being stopped. They are Hindus. Where was ur tolerance then Mr. SRK?
When there was flood in Pakistan, he was there at the forefront to organise and raise money (which was ofcourse a great humanitarian gesture). But why the humanitarian gesture is not for Indians? Or just India a cash cow for his business alone? Aamir Khan is way better than these immature self khan's.
SRK, in short, a thorough businessman.

just read this first thing in the morning in the papers, and went

what we need now is the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and Sachin Tendulkar to come out against this false narrative of "growing intolerance" and speak out.

Guys take my word for it.

Eventually (even today) Amir will be revealed as a way bigger mulla than Shahrukh.

I had predicted the same about Imran Khan a lot before he became Taliban Khan.

My bawa mulla sniffing nose never lies.

Cheers, Doc

wtf is going on....speaking openly about intolerance on national media is not sounding ironic to anyone??

I hope India becomes what RSS & BJP dream off .. A strictly Hindu "rashtra".

Infact we are more than happy.. :D

Then and now:

2013:
What do you think about growing intolerance towards artists, muscians, film makers: Vishwaroopam - Kamal Hasan, Kashmiri girl band etc
reply: I dont talk about political things, I'm just here to talk about movies. :enjoy:

Now, suddenly there is extreme intolerance , and situation is so bad he can sit down and talk about to Rajdeep , while he waits for his newest movie to make lots of cash.
