MAIL TODAY COMMENT: There is no excuse for getting outsmarted by Pakistan | Mail Online

In pure numbers, Indian troops easily outnumber those Pakistan have amassed on the border.
Diplomacy and foreign relations, however, don't always play out as a reflection of the numbers on paper - or even on the ground - and here Pakistan has managed to outclass India at almost every turn.
While Indian leaders were making statements about defusing tension, Pakistan foreign secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani mounted a diplomatic offensive by going straight to US and European envoys to discuss the situation along the Line of Control.

In a direct attack on India's position that border issues can only be solved through bilateral dialogue, Mr Jilani insisted that involving the envoys would help "de-escalate" tensions.
As if that weren't enough, he summoned the Indian High Commissioner to demand a probe into what he claimed were "repeated violations" of the LoC ceasefire by Indian troops and reiterated an offer to have a UN observer group independently examine the situation.
The offer, and the claims of India's 'repeated' violations, are deliberate attempts from Pakistan to turn their own provocation - the killing of two Indian jawans, and the decapitation of one of them - into a position of strength by internationalising the issue.
While this is to be expected, the more troubling situation has been the way India's diplomatic corps have been forced into simply reacting to a series of proactive Pakistani moves.
Foreign minister Salman Khurshid, who has remained busy on his trip to France, insisted that the deaths of the jawans "must be explained."
Meanwhile, foreign secretary Ranjan Mathai advised officials not to respond with "passion."
While the practice of restraint is usually commendable on an explosive border, the foreign office must not allow this to turn into an invitation for the other side to do as they please under a shield of deniability - a situation that has become all too familiar for the Indian public over the last few years.

Talk about the boy who cried wolf once too often, this time it seems the Indians have bitten off more than they can chew.

Pakistanis can whine to any one --be it US, Europe...no one has the guts to say India anything..in fact India will expose the hypocricy of Pakistan w.r.t UN probe..already India has asked for a flag meeting...till now Pakistan was not responding as it does not have the stomach to face the truth about its army(looks like US and Europe has now forced them to talk to us -instead of whining all around the world) ha ha...

Sure. Pakistan is getting the better of us at the current moment. Good for India that Pakistan is a leper on the international front that nobody would make the mistake to associate themselves with.

Seems for the last few lines the editor must have had you on top of his mind.

Outsmarted ? Pakistan wanted to internationalize the issue and went to UN, US and China.

What happened, its your matter, we won't come in between.
Now who cried wolf ?

As for troops deployment, Indians can afford to deploy any number of soldiers as financially we are more strong whereas PA is stretched all over Pakistan fighting insurgency at its western border and being prepared at its eastern border.

Stopped reading daily mail ages ago its gone downhill worthless paper it is

More a case of after all the chest thumping and hunger strike tantrums, the jittery nerves have kicked in and now the are keen to have a flag meeting.

No wonder there are no comments to this article. Some one needs to whisper this to the author.... India doesn't internationalise any issues related to Kashmir. shhhh... don't tell anyone!!

So? I did read the article in it's entirety unlike your edited post. Do you have a point other than applying colors and the bold function to the text?

We already sent invitation for flag meeting but you responded late.

Hunger strikes, of soldiers, was wrong news by idiot IndiaTv, hunger strikes of families of the family, was for state govt. to at least show some respect and govt. replied. Only UP govt. didn't respond earlier.

As for tantrums, Pakistan as usual, first went running to UN, US and China and when got cold shoulder, agreed for flag meeting. :D

Yeah, this is called face saving when no one responded. :D

Indian GOI already said on the first day that we should show restrain, don't stop peace process and agreed for flag meeting. In India Armed forces can't take action without GOI permission. Unlike, well you know it.

Face saving from Indians....oh please give it a rest fella.
BTW, Who didn't respond, it was India scared of getting exposed...chickened out.
So in India the likes of Airchief resorts to mere chest thumping without any substance, may i remind you none of Pakistani military leaders issued any worthless statement like their Indian counterparts. :D

Wait, I thought India was granted the most favoured nation status by Pakistan. What happened to that? :D
