The woes of Bengalis and Burmese of Karachi

If they arrived after 1971, they are not Pakistani citizens and have no legal right to live in the country, period. I really don't care what you think.

.

You can spend the rest of your life whining on online forums with no results to see.

Only way BD will take these people back is if Pakistan compensates BD for the unjust fiscal transfers(1947-1971) and damage done during 1971 war. 100 billion US dollars will cover it I think.

I'm not whining. It is you people that are always whining about your Biharis.

I'm just pointing out Bangladeshis in Pakistan are not eligible for citizenship. And if their country refuses to take them back, that's their problem. And as long as we have them here, we will never take any Biharis back, period.

Yah I was just talking about the ID papers being thrown aboard by the refugees themselves. Its a long old trick used by illegals and visa overstayers, get rid of any documentation...so any existing diplomatic channels become hard or impossible (because the origin country can simply refuse them as theirs with no ID).

Correct. Khaleda Zia's administration did exactly this when a few of them were sent back in the 1990s.

However, I have sympathy for actual refugees, like the Rohingya. But the thing is, Bengali Bangladeshis are not refugees, they are just illegal migrants.

Airport is the toughest one for illegals given a country can take action against the airline that brought them there (and documentation is always there where the traveller originated from at least air travel wise and that can be used to deport with IATA/ICAO help if needed).

But boatloads arriving by sea (which I imagine were the biggest route) is just tough one to take action with in comparison. Plus the Zia factor which I did not know (thanks btw).

Exactly. Once inside Karachi, they were very hard to round up and deport. Boatloads of people are a problem. You can't load all of them onto planes. And what if those who are sent back by plane are refused at the airport (as Khaleda Zia's government did in the 1990s)? What if ships carrying them back to Bangladesh them are not allowed to dock in Bangladesh?

Some also made their way by train, bus, and on foot through India. They would travel to the border, and then just cross over. There is no record of those people even arriving. How do you track them down, or even know that they are in the country to begin with?

I mean you can put them in holding centres/camps etc, but thats just going to cost money (legal and living costs etc) esp when source-country does not cooperate (would have to wait for sanctions to take effect if they even matter)...compared to having them work (probably by using existing connections of their people locally) and if the administration is lax to their incoming stream in first place and a few bribes can handle any roughness, well then the long term issue gets put into place.

Right again. Keeping them in camps would be very expensive, and was somewhat unfeasible---there were hundreds of thousands of them. And of course, people would illegally smuggle them out and provide them with fake Pakistani identification.

Even if they were successfully held somewhere for a long period of time (unlikely), the same question would arise: How to deport them?

In the end though it is up to Pakistan's society...just like the problem reached tipping point in parts of India that border BD....only when society feels the issue is of high enough importance does the govt even make it a voter issue (and that takes time too)....and then implementation of something (which again takes more time).

True. The bottom line is that they have stopped immigrating and make up less than 1% of Pakistan's total population, and less than 5% of Sindh's, so there is no issue in Pakistan like there is in Assam and West Bengal, fortunately. I just bring it up every time some Bangladeshis have something negative to say about Pakistan, or when they complain about their Biharis.

So let's send back these 'Bangladeshis' back to Bangladesh if you can prove that they are what you claim them to be.

Good luck on your govts. Actions. This is meant for indians.

Sanghi trolls and false flaggers are quite entertaining....

These Indians and Pakistanis talk like they are much much wealthier than BD.
All 3 countries are currently 3rd world and really no better than each other.

This is one way to mask the inferiority complex. In the entire world, indian and pakistanis are known to be the biggest illegal hordes. Some of them get orgasm at the thought that their country is also worth enough for migration.

No India and Pakistan both are not LDC's and come within developing countries . Its only BD out of the three who falls in the LDC/Third world list along with other African countries . Reasons that you guys give of BD being there on purpose is just hilarious .

There are countries in LDC better per capita income and living standard than pakistan.

@LA se Karachi @Khan_21 Out of curiosity, what route do human smugglers take to get Bangladeshi migrants into Pakistan? Indo-Pak border is heavily guarded and barbed. Do they arrive via sea routes?

Isn't the entire Bihari affair over?

Quoting FO:

Further, more than 170,000 Biharis have already been repatriated to Pakistan and the repatriation was facilitated by the cabinet division prior to the decisions of the Bangladesh Supreme Court on the status of non-Bengalis, the foreign office said.
Also:

The foreign office also submitted copies of the May 2003 and May 2008 verdicts of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, wherein the top Bangladeshi court declared that Biharis are the citizens of Bangladesh and accordingly are eligible and entitled to be enrolled as voters in electoral rolls in the country.

Apart from per capita there are other categories in LDC like Economic vulnerability and Human Assets which BD needs to fullfill in order to graduate .

LDC is a group, countries choose voluntarily. It is not automatically imposed by UN.Many countries in Africa and Asia have poor living standard similar to LDC countries but are not part of it.Some countries didn't join it because they are too proud of joining that club than whatever benefit it returns despite low socio-economic progress.India, Pakistan are among them.In Africa, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Kenya,Zimbabwe who choose not to join it due to similar reason of India, Pakistan.Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are also not part of it despite lower living standard than Bangladesh.

I don't care what some Bd members said but the fact of the matter is many Bd migrated to Pakistan from 71 to late 80's. Some may even be migating now through family link.

Pakistan may not be USA or Dubai but it still better than Bd. There is no easy solution to this problem.

They stopped immigrating years ago, due to their improved economy. They arrived primarily by sea. But some were smuggled in through the border. The border along eastern Sindh isn't nearly has heavily guarded as the LOC.

One of my friends whose family is from Muzaffarabad told me that people sometimes illegally cross the border to smuggle goods and visit family. It can be done, even there, if you're willing to take the risk and pay some people off.

It essentially is, their own government has declared the vast majority of them to be Bangladeshi citizens. In any case, if Bangladesh is not willing back to take back their illegal Bengali immigrants in Pakistan, Pakistan will not take back anymore Biharis.

Rohingya refugees are most welcome, however.

Splatting a tomato is much easier than putting it back together again :P Talked to a cpl lawyer friends few months back...there is tons of legislation even in developing world that takes much cost, time and effort once people come in (illegally) and esp settle in a country for certain amount of time (depending on various statute of limitation durations). Developed world say USA, it can cost 200k sometimes (or even more) per illegal to deport back....its not going to be same for developing country but I would imagine its quite high....esp with massive resistance from source country of the illegal (and no easy way for say Pakistan to bring counter-sanctions to bear like say US recently did with a few south american countries trying to do the same).
Unfortunately it seems we are stuck with them for the time being, they will not take back their citizens under any circumstances and you are correct we do not have many cards in play when it comes to Banglaland, and their numbers in karachi are rising as they seem to put rabbits to shame.Kudos yaar.
