I think US withdrawal is much better ...they didn't broke like USSR
..USSR had advantage of being neighbor and land route for continuous supply ..much easier for them to retreat

The story is not very different in Afghanistan and the 2011 Salala attack was the expression of the same frustration as the Vietnamese Turkestan incident in which many Pakistani soldiers were killed by USAF. In my mind the Salala incident = Turkestan incident.

The fact is Vietnamese airforce quickly learned from their menators and with great courage rose to intercept and attack wave after wave of USAF attacks.. the same can be said about their foot soldiers.

If you had your hands tied, so did the soviets. If you escaled what makes you think the Soviets and Chinese wont escate?.. remember in Korea Soviet and Chinese pilots effectively ended day light USAF attacks.

the fact remains they out fought you with skill, improvisation and great courage. You people denying them of this wont change any thing.

In general there is very little US military can be proud of what they did in Vietnam... there was a reason why your own people were spitting on your soldiers as they returned.

Progressive ideas spread through discussion, debate and preaching and I am sure the Afghan progressives tried reasoning for years with those among the Afghans who insisted on using and spreading traditional-local and foreign regressive ideas. It were these second Afghans who were unwilling to compromise.

The US enjoyed air superiority over Vietnam during the Vietnam war.Most US air losses were due to Soviet SAM but once we improved our jammers and refined our wild weasel tactics even Soviet SAM operators rarely targeted US fighters. So no the US air force and Navy could bomb whatever it wanted and it did towards the end to force Vietnam into the Paris accord.

yes... and few years earlier USAF had terrible ratio of 2:1 .... you learned lessons years later got new tactics and tech and had a temporay edge.

what makes you think soviets would not adapt and supply new tech and equipment to blunt your new found advantage?..
