Still if Imran Khan get's into power which I dearly hope maybe he can bring about some structural change. The problem there is he is 68 and not age to be to begin sorting out such a unruly place like Pakistan. Still lets see what happens. We certainly are going through interesting times.

I am understandably not too thrilled though, coz I believe he is an Islamist and I never liked him even as a cricketer.

That is a enigma but I think he is a 'Islamist' no more then I am. A throughly man of the world but who knows we come from culture/society that is at another level of existence. Since these things can't be changed you have to accomodate yourself with your wider society unless you want to get divorced or isolated from them. Which we can't because our hearts still belong there. This becomes the case even more as you get older - in youth you can push out to experiment but over time the gravity pulls you in line.

All this pull to comply with societies mores is even more so for Imran Khan as he wants to lead a so called Islamic republic where everybody exudes piety even if non follow it. I think you probably know how I play "more catholic then catholic" here to swim in the pond. Much in same way IK has to go that extra mile lest his detractors question his piety. He is not going to go far if he gets the title 'westoxified' which would kill his political future. Instead play the Taliban card and get called 'Taliban Khan' which in Pakistan will give you more stock value then being 'westoxified'.

Just to clarify, though with you I probably don't need to, I wasn't really referring to the tribal pashtun cap/turban AK-47 toting pose thing with the Impressive silver beard elders whole tribal thing that he used to do. That's great.

It's something beyond that. But then again, that might not really be a bad thing, seeing as India and Pakistan seem to take the widest strides under the more hardcore regimes.

Anyways, 68 is hardly old. He's got easily a good 5 years in him at the very least.
