The single biggest reason why China surged ahead in last 10 years while India fell by the wayside

We can say what we like about tbe indians but first lesson of islam is iqra and look at us today....its very very sad

‘Made in China’ manufacturing is the biggest reason. Say thank you to the West.

Obviously, you miss the point. Why it is China but not India who is in position to thank the West.

I guess the biggest difference lies in governance and people's individual approach in life.

There is huge competition in the Mainland, and social meritocracy is very agile. That, at times, almost seems scary, even to me.

When I join some sessions in undergrad programs in Mainland China, the level of competition is unbelievable. Very few settle for less than what they want.

No wonder ambitious Taiwan youth also end up in Mainland.

Chinese people in general don't believe in after-life, so they would have to make the most out this life. Rapid economic development provides both incentives and rewards to those who are competitive. Besides, in East Asian societies, "hard-working" has been a virtue and education has been attached great importance for centuries.

The current system is abysmal, however I have hope, currently there is a growing realization and a concerted effort to improve this sector.

Various programs and initiatives have been launched to improve student scores (specially at primary level).

Their impact or implementation, only time will tell if they succeed or not.

Imo the hardest part, wherein convincing parents to send their children to school rather than to earn has started to show dividends. There is this growing realization (pan India) among parents that sending their children to schools is necessary for social upliftment. Happy, little articles proclaiming the successes of these hard little workers are becoming frequent occurances ( they are a pleasure to read).

The situation now is bad, but we are not static, only time and our diligence will tell where we land up.
