Before you start to criticize other and correct others, it would be better if you corrected yourself and stop using the words "Third World" to describe yourself.

The cow was necessary to emphasize how Americans' conception of India is out of line with the reality - one does not attempt to enter a club with a cow in tow, but there India is, launching satellites and space probes in the daily news. I don't understand how Indians found it offensive but it's their call, not mine.

The difference is in thinking of someone as "Nigger" and saying it out loud.

The cartoon was funny, it was also offensive and racist.

Stereotyping is a broader category than racism. Racism is a subset of stereotyping.

Examples:

1. Women are too interested in money (Stereotype)
Jews are too interested in money (Racism)

2. Big men are slow and dumb. (Stereotype)
Black men are slow and dumb. (Racism)

As you can see the difference is that racism makes a stereotype based on race, religion, or national origin whereas stereotyping can be based on any characteristic.

The fact that you did not find it Racist, tell us something. Can you guess what ?

Racist...and something out of a museum. Is that like from the year 1912? o_O[/quote]

It was Racist and is something out of a museum. However the First cartoon is from 2014 and just as racist.

Ironically "Sambo" was first depicted as a black Tamil INDIAN, however he was mistaken for African and became a Afro iconography.

Sir, actually it was considered as racist by some of your fellow people(who are actually good people because inspite of being americans they raise there voice for indians)....It is not like seeing a picture, all will notice or understand the same concept...Some people will say this picture is ok, but there might be some people who will say it is not...I myself is confused as to what extent i should recognize this picture...There can be so many meanings of this picture if you ask different people...I respect your concept about this picture and i must say thanyou because you are a good person atleast for me if not for others....:-)

The cartoon is stupid but harmless.. What is jarring is that many people form their perspectives from bits and pieces of information strewn over the media. I have in fact been asked about chilled monkey brains by a couple of people, whose only knowledge of India came from Indiana Jones movies.

You do realize that makes you a Racist. right ?
If I still maintained the cartoon was O.K. that might be true. But now I know that Indians are offended I don't think it's O.K. any more. So I was ignorant, not racist.

We have a similar problem in Washington, D.C. with our football team, the Washington Redskins. Turns out that some Native Americans find the term "Redskin" offensive. They successfully sued to have the team's copyrights rescinded. I think the team will feel compelled to drop its 50+ year old name quite soon. (But what if some other citizens sued on the grounds that they found the term "Washington" offensive? This is where the careful discernment of the court must be employed to prevent mindless application of laws from becoming abuses.)

Don't know about others, but I didn't find anything offensive about it. Indians in recent times seem to deride anything that goes against their nationalistic world view of India/Hinduism etc. If someone from the West would point out the inhuman level of uncleanliness, before the PM said it, everyone would be up in arms against them.
As for the cartoon, while it certainly highlights toward the stereotypical view of Indians in the West, I didn't find it FUNNY
