Believing that his empire was a divine gift and trust to be preserved, the Habsburgs monarch of Austria-Hungary Franz Josef I annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina to make up for the territories lost earlier and, along with other maniacs, participated in insanities that lead to WW-1. His claim was neither new nor unique. Monarchs have laid similar claims more than often and almost everywhere. An example of this is the concept of Bharta/Bharat, the land which, according to Hinduism, needs to be preserved and includes modern day’s Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, precisely the extent of Maurya empire.

Rigveda, the earliest Hindu text was compiled in what is now Punjab and KPK provinces of Pakistan about 1000 BC and refers to this land as Sapta Sindhu, the land of seven rivers. Five rivers of Punjab, river Beas and river Swat. Rigveda is filled with hymns of praise for it almost making what is now Pakistan a holy land. But it does not have anything about the concept of Bharat in the sense later additions into Hinduism like Puranas propound.

My point is, this concept was concocted during Maurya Empire as neither before nor after that empire, this region remained as a single unit. The empire soon disintegrated and sub-continent remained divided into tens of smaller kingdoms which were not only independent but often hostile to each other. Mughals joined this region after 2000 years and after them, Bharat mata was resurrected.

:lol::lol::lol:

I am not a historian , But I have heard somewhere that Baratha were the earliest or most probably 1st Rig Vedic tribe.

And its a common sense .

People started as individuals
Individuals form Groups
Groups form Clan
Clan form Tribes
Tribes give rise to Societies
Societies give rise to larger societies
Which leads to empires

And it finally ends with nation state .:lol::lol:

You are contradicting yourself.

Assuming that it existed once , whats the concern if it was 'resurrected ' ?

The Rg veda is primarily a book of the Bharatas, descendant of the pre-Rg vedic king Bharata. It is they who give this land the name. Standard rubbish by people who know nothing about the Rg veda and still want to comment on it.

The Rg veda was composed primarily in the area of modern day Haryana which was where the Bharatas had their kingdom. The river most mentioned in the Rg veda is the Sarasvati.

The battle of ten kings mentioned in Rig Veda where Bharatas crossed the river sindh and fought with the people on the Iranian and C.Asian territories.

Most of the texts are twisted to suit the narrative of west !!

Here we have, a whole bunch of people suffering from the same cognitive disability, all at once! Or perhaps, an innate tendency to deviate from what's being discussed, when what's being discussed doesn't suit one's narrative. My point is, my point is, my point is.... the myth of Bharatvarsha was concocted during the Maurya Empire, I ain't talking about King Bharat of Rigveda. A typical case of religio-political indoctrination for personal ends. On the other hand, you could disagree with me and elaborate on how your gods destined Bharta. Also clarify whether it was done before or after the Big Bang!

Jambudvipa was used in ancient scriptures for the name of India before Bharata became the official name scriptures began using.
According to the Bhagavata Purana, before India was called Bharatvarsha, it was known as Nabhivarsha.

Which itself got replaced by Hindustan and Al Hind ( mainly used by Arab people in their lands ) given by the Muslims who came from Arab and Central Asia .

Hodu , Indika , Indic , India were the names of European origin .

Tianzhu or Tenjiku , Chinese and Japanese name for this land .

Thank you sir for a nice reply. I wanted a discussion like this instead of rants by people who have no knowledge of the subject and find it difficult to adjust given their politically motivated narrative and whims. Thank you again.
Like I gave the example of Franz Josef's delusions, I was looking into the history of Bharatvarsha as I believe religio-political leaders in India are playing similar classic tricks on public and now many Indians don't hesitate insulting the sovereignty of their neighbors when they effectively suggest that their countries should not exist. Now to the topic.

I have just read about Jambudvipa on the link you kindly provided. Apparently it does talk about some continent, but no specific geography is mentions but its some continent island. Moreover, its Puranic cosmology, Puranas are a later addition into Hinduism, of which, a major part was done during Maurya Empire. So my argument is still the same.

Puranic age coincided with the Age of Empires , Before that was the Age of Mythology and Before that was the OLD World .

Very true, and even today while performing the puja's the reference is given to location as Jambudvipa->Bharat Varsha -> Bharat Khandya -> XXX location.

Anyone who has done any of the famous pilgrimages like chardham etc and have performed the puja or rituals there would have heard these words from the pandit, who describes the location where the puja is done.

Jambudivpa was once ruled by Ikshvaku dynasty which was later called as Suravanshi's where Vishnu incarnation Lord Rama was born.

Well in terms of Christian calendar, Puranas compilation happened after 400 BC and my point is, the concept of Bharat originated from there.

Ummm ..... I don't have clear answer .
But one thing is sure ,
South Asian civilization originated from the Fertile lands of United Punjab . Barathas were living somewhere in United Punjab .

Rig Veda written between 1700 BCE to 1200 BCE . Talks about Battle of 10 Kings . Baratha Tribe were one of those .
