The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sales top 10 million in first three days

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sold over 10 million units in the three days since its launch on May 12, making it the fastest selling game in the history of The Legend of Zelda series, Nintendo announced. With over four million copies sold in the Americas, it is also the fastest selling Switch game and Nintendo game for any system in that territory. A total of 2.24 million units were sold in Japan.

“Many players are returning to Hyrule with all its new mysteries and possibilities, and with the record-breaking launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for Nintendo Switch, we can’t wait to see what they’ll create in the game and the stories they’ll share next,” said Nintendo of America executive vice president of sales, marketing, and communications Devon Pritchard in a press release. “We’re grateful for all of our fans who’ve shown their passion for The Legend of Zelda over the years, and these sales numbers for the latest installment continue to show the strong momentum for both the franchise and Nintendo Switch this year.”

Here is an overview of the game and series, via Nintendo:

In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which is a direct sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players decide their own path through the sprawling landscapes of Hyrule and on the mysterious islands floating in the vast skies above. Discover new destinations, dangers, sights and puzzles that require wits and resourcefulness to overcome. Harnessing the power of Link’s new abilities, players will fight back against the malevolent forces that threaten the kingdom.
The Legend of Zelda actionadventure series started over 35 years ago with the Legend of Zelda game, which debuted in the United States in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. As the heroic Link, players go on an adventure battling foes and discovering hidden mysteries in vast fields and dungeons. As of March 2023, the series has sold more than 130 million units worldwide.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch, the My Nintendo Store and select retailers at a suggested retail price of $69.99. The Nintendo Switch OLED Model – The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Edition system, featuring a special design (game sold separately), is also available at a suggested retail price of $359.99.
Additionally, two accessories—a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller ($74.99 MSRP) and a Nintendo Switch carrying case ($24.99 MSRP), both with designs from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom—are also now available to purchase.
I kneel...not a Nintenbro nor much Zelda fan (I'm more of a Sony/PC dude) but this is explosive sales power for an exclusive title.
In comparison, it takes weeks for Elden Ring to reach 10 millions and RE4 Remake sold 4 millions in 4 days and these titles are multiplats, this is an explosive amount, almost unheard of.

Nintendo is truly one of the gaming's trump card company.

Uh, what?

People playing with fantasy visualizations while the real humanity needs their attention. Also, there are real achievements to be realized ( like space travel and Communism ).

you should play this one:

based on a novel by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dmitry_Glukhovsky

https://metrovideogame.fandom.com/wiki/Factions

  • Red Line - A Marxist-Leninist and neo-Stalinist faction, the Red Line is the haven of Soviet nostalgists and ageing former members of the CPSU and Komsomol. Led by General Secretary Maxim Moskvin, the Communist Party maintains control much as in Stalin's time - through a program of censorship, political and social repression, and webs of spies and informants. The Reds occupy most of the Sokolnicheskaya Line (literally, "Red Line"; the oldest in the Metro and a constant reminder of the glories of Russia's pseudo-socialist past) minus the two stations of the Ring, and possess the largest population and greatest territory in the Metro. Much like the Soviet Army of the Second World War, the Red Line relies on a massive, but poorly trained and equipped, conscript army. Of the Line's 15,000 citizens, 6000-7000 serve in the Armed Forces, engaged in a constant struggle against the Neo-Nazis of the Fourth Reich.

You are talking as if they are mutual exclusive.

Now everything needs first test and trials via simulation, which are essentially vidya games.

Video games also contribute to AI and machine user interface, the next steps of industry.

And frankly, what kind of humans don't play video games nowadays? They are so incredibly varied, so you are either an old boomer or those zoomers who only watch gaming streams and can't play.

Don't bother with this one.. he's like a rag doll in some open world, or a glitched stuck enemy in some rocks.. keeps moving, can't do no damage, wont die either

...but you can mine XP by having a go at it. :D

I'm still not done with breath of the wild on my switch. Been playing that for 3 years on and off. Most likely going to start this after 2 years lmao. Only thing holding Nintendo games back is the system. Its way too underpowered.

These days I'm addicted to war thunder on the PC. MSFS flying on the vatsim network in the weekends.

Like like the idiot on the motorcycle you will feed dogs and feed motorcycles instead of giving 30 rupees to the hijdas. You have more respect for dogs than for humans. No wonder you hate Communism.

Who builds spacecraft using computer simulation ?

Nintendo is the grand daddy of gaming, where basically everything Console gaming related stand behind Nintendo (The first console I have is a Nintendo Famicom)

The thing is, gaming world is changing, and seems like Nintendo is not able to catch up with those change, today gaming world not just based on hard unit sales, a different number of factors also dictate the state of play, and one majority of that change Nintendo failed to keep up with is online gaming.

People want to play games online with their friends, gone with the day you are playing that game alone or with your brother or sister with the second controller. Now people mostly play game for that interaction experience, which is a shame because I hated the online platform (Like COD Warzone, I would prefer playing the COD campaign alone and immerse myself with the story) mostly because I sucked. But microtransaction alone is now worth upward to 35 billions annually, and with projected 5% increase until 2025, that trump basically all game sales. But Nintendo, as far as I see it, failed to develope a well defined online environment, if you compare it to Microsoft Gold or PS Plus.

IMO Nintendo need to get with this if they want to survive, otherwise we may see a downfall of Nintendo.

teach a man to fish..

No need for anyone to fish ( earn money ). Abolish money. Then on, teach skills to every one and get everyone's participation in the daily running of society : in the daily material upkeep and survival of society and in the political and social aspects.

So, has Inphosis and TShiYes adopted the Kerbal Space Program and are currently building research stations on Europa, the ice moon of Jupiter ?

You will learn more about the universe from the "Melody Sheep" YouTube channel vids I have posted in the space thread in the 'Science & Technology' section of the forum than you will learn in some degree college and most films.

Have they left their jobs and burnt their college degrees to pursue these goals ?

Not sure how it is done in India, but most spacecrafts and rovers in US and China now begin their lives as computer simulation models.
In fact, without a feasible model, you are just wasting everyone's time and money, really.

And this is before the model is approved and people start building the prototypes.
