The intelligence coup of the century

.
I am sure that a lot of people warned those duped governments about this rigged system. No one listened to them. Russians (Soviets) and Chinese knew it and never fell into this trap. However, friends of the Russians and Chinese who used this system also damaged Russia and China. Idiot friends are worse than enemies.

WASHINGTON:

US and German intelligence services raked in the top secret communications of governments around the world for decades through their hidden control of a top encryption company Crypto AG, US, German and Swiss media reported on Tuesday.

The Swiss company was a top supplier of devices for encoding communications to some 120 countries from after World War II to the beginning of this century, including Iran, South American governments, and India and Pakistan, the Washington Post, German television ZTE and Swiss state media SRF reported.

Unknown to those governments, Crypto was secretly owned by the US Central Intelligence Agency together with Germany’s BND Federal Intelligence Service, who rigged Crypto’s equipment to be able to easily break the codes and read the government’s messages.

The Washington Post said a classified internal CIA history of the top-secret program identifies the CIA officers who oversaw the operation and the Crypto executives who enabled it.

And it noted that the company took in millions of dollars while giving Western intelligence access to the secrets of its clients.

“It was the intelligence coup of the century,” the history says, according to the Washington Post.

“Foreign governments were paying good money to the US and West Germany for the privilege of having their most secret communications read by at least two (and possibly as many as five or six) foreign countries.”

The arrangement has long been suspected and was alluded to, but never proven, in documents that surfaced decades ago.

The media reports note that while scores of countries made use of Crypto’s products, the top Western adversaries, Russia and China, never did.

The CIA had no immediate comment on the story.

Crypto, based in Zug, Switzerland, was reportedly broken into two companies in 2018, with its Swiss client business remaining in that country and the international business and company name being taken over by Swedish investor Andreas Linde.

The Swedish company, Crypto International, called the news reports “very distressing.”

“We have no connections to the CIA or the BND and we never had,” the company said in a statement on its website.

“We are currently assessing the situation and will be commenting once we have a full picture.”

if true, im sure there is legal recourse and we can claim $. im sure it wont make up for the damage done but atleast something is better than nothing

I think it is a no-brainer that the Soviets and Chinese would never allow a foreign country to build their most sensitive communications systems.

Jump to 2020 and there are still plenty of so-called smart countries who don’t see the danger.

Of course the 120 country claim could be a big bluff just to accentuate the danger

Pakistan is no longer using Western tech for its Telecom Networks. Most of our critical servers and telecom equipments are from ZTE, Huawei. Older systems were by seimen but they were mostly replaced.

US did have backdoor access to our Siemen servers we used for PTCL which was the main reason it was replaced. There was a news article about it as well cant seem to find it.

where is the mention of Pak or india?

Other countries are irrelevant it seems

.
Good Pakistan switched over from Siemen servers to something else the point is there is no "bloody privacy" these days everything is tracked I dont care is equipment is Chinese,Russian,or American the Americans are just s..ting on China is because of their geo-political and tech rivalry

By no means a treaty can be equated with losing a part of state in every way.
The treaty was never a price for losing the state, plz re read my post where I have clearly mentioned that it was our major fault line which US took advantage of, if US was on our side East Pakistan would have not gone so badly but eventually it wud have.
Secondly that treaty is your lifeline

Incompetence and corruption to be blamed. They do not care if it hurts their countries as long as brown envelopes are offered.

No encryption algorithm can guarantee information security. The security is a whole different process which requires certain behavioural practices. Technology can never replace highly skilled intelligence officers.

It means our allies knew throughout cold war, what Bharati and Soviet designs were regarding United Pakistan.
What do you mean US knew,, it was entirely our fault.. Our folks also knew this was going to happen soon..Infact Henry Kessinger is on record saying this in 1970 : “After the opening to China via Pakistan, America engaged in increasingly urging Pakistan to grant autonomy to Bangladesh. In November, the Pakistani president agreed with Nixon to grant independence the following March.
The following December, India, after having made a treaty including military provisions with the Soviet Union, and in order to relieve the strain of refugees, invaded East Pakistan [which is today Bangladesh].”

The info got leaked out to KGB and they decided to execute the plan right away.

This whole thing was set up by Bhutto & Co., because East Pakistan had more population and West Pakistan feared they would lose power. Everyone top - down from Civilian to Military were at fault for this.
