The good things Overseas Pakistanis have done for their home countries

I have often read here on the forum that we Overseas Pakistanis don't have a say in Pakistans internal matters. Mostly if we promote traditional Islamic values or if we don't want Pakistan to implement socialist policies that are proven to be toxic for any economy in the world. They know why we left Pakistan. This website is mostly populated by expats posting from abroad.

I find this kind of sad because we Overseas Pakistani have Pakistan in mind all the time. It's very ungrateful to belittle the achievements of Overseas Pakistani. You can check any website with remittance data and see how important the remittances of Overseas Pakistani are for the country. Of course it would be better if no remittances were needed, but the reality is, many families and charities in Pakistan depend on the money Overseas Pakistani send back home.

I will never forget the poor Pakistani waiter I met on vacation in Malta. He shared his place with 5 other foreigners making 600 Euros a month and sending almost everything back to his wife and children. Where is the gratefulness for their sacrifice? Living abroad, working hard jobs and long hours for a little pay. Just to see their family in good old Pakistan happy and fed :S. My late granddad left Pakistans decades ago and he invested in his village not only for the good of our family. He built a school and financed marriages for the poor!

I don't know if giving money away for free is the right thing to do, especially if they are not core familiy (wife, parents, children..). Most people from the extended families develop this feeling of being entitlted to that money without good reason. I know Pakistanis here in the West who were later hated on by their families because they couldn't afford to send money back anymore due financial problems. I don't send any money to my family in Pakistan because they simply don't need it. But giving money to charity is a good thing and ,many succesful Pakistanis making six figures here in Europe are heavily interested in the well-being of our poorer Pakistani brothers and sisters. Being charitable is in our DNA.

What I want to say is: don't have this attitude regarding Overseas Pakistanis, most of those haters would leave Pakistan for good if the fancy European Embassy grant them a Schengen Visa. So stop that please!

You need to change the title a bit. Replace "south asians" with "Pakistanis".

First we are not South Asians we are more towards central Asia.
Second all depends on mindset of people.
Third we know people who benefitted others because of love to see people prosper like eidi. Recognition is just a byproduct.

Are you talking about Pakistani's here? Or Bangladeshi, Indian, Nepali etc. Each have a differant contour. You heard of the Two Nation Theory and 1947 blah blah or is that border just a line for you?

You need to change the title a bit. Replace "south asians" with "Pakistanis".

IF you stop sending pesay then they will curse you. When you travel to Pakistan, you are suddenly met by ppl who seem to know you and say they are relatives of yours and expect hand out.
Bijli bill don't worry some guy will approach you and somehow will know your name and will request bill pesay at inflated price, of course you are paying for the whole village bill scam.

If you decide to stop sending pesay you know vo barey british pund, then expect your house in pak vandalized. Your land, expect the border to be shifted even though the dumb ba stards can't grow sh it.

To make it worse you will have a relative that came over to England, who is their spy and most likely their son or uncle who sends all his wages to them, while his own family is struggling every day.

They will say things kyu asa log kolni zameen perr, zameen itta rehsy asa mari jasa i be like ala fir tussa apna zameen mari nam perr karu tussa ni chayna. then the person dies.

Quaid e Azam and Allama Iqbal both lived, studied, and in case of Quaid, worked overseas.

Pakistan needs people with our unique skills and insights, unfortunately most of the diaspora has totally lost touch with who they are.

I don't know if I consider second generations who can't speak Urdu, Punjabi, Pukhto, Seraiki, etc. As Pakistanis, esp if those same are no longer Muslims and have generally wrong or malicious views of our country.

Saying this, I think we overseas Pakistanis can do alot for our country.

There is NO south asian "people" or collective identity. south asian is a loose term used by the White European British because they couldn't be bothered to separate all the different Brown people in to their different racial and genetic categories. The White European colonialists did EXACTLY the same to the Arabs, South Americans and Latinos too. Even through the Colombians and Brazilians are way more racially and genetically closer to one another than Pakistanis and indians are, they will NEVER say that Colombians and Brazilians are the "same people", "same culture" etc.

I have lived abroad but now live in Pakistan. I can tell u that overseas Pakistanis have tremendous love for Pakistan. Its because of their help that we are hanging on. There is a small elite group of Pakistanis though, who try to mix in with the overseas Pakistanis but actually are corrupt crocodiles. They pay huge taxes abroad but loot in Pakistan and use loophole for their advantage. The common overseas Pakistanis are our strength and apart frm typical jealousy, people respect them.

His older brothers and cousins called from Pakistan that his "monthly installment" was late a 10 days or so and he should send money immediately. No one cared about his children, no one cared about his well-being just pay up or shut up. Because if you live in UK, you must be rich and have an unlimited amount of many in your bank account. Yeah and the same low lives will later comment on you like "Ghorea ki tarha bhan ghea hain" (he became white saying that he abandoned his family) or "Aapne Bhehn Bhaio ki koi pechan nehi!" and say that you are not a real Pakistani. For the Whites you are the Pakistani and for the Pakistani you are the White. Vicious circus.

We Overseas Pakistani should only support our core family and even them only to some extent. Why does my cousin have to pay for the new car of his younger brother in Pakistan? He drives and old car too, why should he send 10 Lakh rupees to Pakistan just for fun? Money giving to charity is a better investment.

Why mention indians? Iranians, Arabs, Turks, Colombians, Brazilians etc living in the UK also face the same issues as Pakistanis living abroad. Open your mind and don't believe the propaganda that indians are in ANYWAY somehow similar to us.

The biggest contribution of Overseas Pakistanis is buying plots in DHA, Bahria Town, etc. And it is not their fault that they are doing it. It is the fault of the Pakistan Government and its Establishment that have created ZERO investment, innovation and Business opportunities due to the immense Corruption these Mafia Bosses are involved in.
