What's new

The dangers of Bangladesh are bigger than thought

Let me suggest a way out. Burma shud cede Arakan and Chin Hills and BD can cede CHT to India. That way there will be no common border between Burma and MM and no dispute.
No, you have misread the map of this region. Even if BD cedes CHT to India, there still will be no connection for your NE to the BoB. By the way, CHT is part and parcel of BD. The Pahari people there are full citizens of the country and they are contributing in every field. India should keep its dirty hands off the CHT. And who gives us the Arakan? It is the property of the Rohingyas only if they have the will force to take it back from the Burmese. This I doubt because they cannot do it with a low number of population.

.
Somewhere I read an offhand comment that long range artilleries posted on the CHT could pummel Chittagong port, like how The polish forces pummelled the Turks from the Kahlenberg mountain during the 1683 Siege of Vienna....So CHT going to East Pakistan was more of a military decision..what language do the Buddhist of CHT speak? are there any Bengali Buddhists in Bangladesh?

.
Fair point... noted, accepted......Does CHT represent a natural border between Indian subcontinent and South East Asia or is the natural border a bit east to that?
CHT is not that high, impenetrable mountains. If you look true geographic barrier between Sub continent and south east Asia then Naga hills and Arakan yoma should be the most suitable.

Bluesky,

Good point. So pls hand over Cox Bazar distt as well. Just kidding.

Pls read the rest of my post. I said MM shud hand over Chin Hills and Arakan to us. That will connect NE to BoB.

Historically, CHT has been a part of Bengal since Mughal period. British masters just followed the rule of partition by giving it to east Pakistan, because it had become a part of Bengal Presidency after the fall of Siraj in 1757 CE. So, it was not awarded to east Pakistan on military ground because it is far away from the Ctg. Port city.

Kahlenberg mountain was just behind at the left of the Turkic troop mobilization and the Polish military unit went up the steep tedious hill at nightfall and bombarded the Turkic troops from behind with big guns when the battle started. The Turkic General Mustafa was not careful/aware of the Polish troops climbing up the dangerous hills behind his neck. It was the cause of defeat for his army and the military tide then turned completely in favor of European Christians against the Asian Muslims.

Anyway, not Balkan wars, but now is the time to know about the pros and cons of any future military contention between BD and MM armies. Otherwise, @TopCat will start punishing me with hard words.

Betweeen Burma and MM? what's MM You mean Arakan and Chin Hills together should form a seperate country or merge with India? that Chittagong Hill Tracts with its Bengali Buddhist Population didnot merge with India was one of the greatest tragedies of Partition..what was the logic of giving CHT to East Pakistan anyway?
There are several reason why CHT given to East Pakistan.

1.To give Chittagong port some buffer territory. The only port of East Bengal at that time.

2.Access to CHT was only possible through Chittagong port.Cyril Radcliffe given much importance about communication infrastructure.

3.CHT was given as a compensation for more important and populous muslim majority districts of Bengal which were awarded to India like Murshidabad, Malda, Half of Dinajpur etc.

4.CHT population were quite small in that time.Around 1 lakh. But in western Bengal, Millions of muslim came under Indian rules, which were supposed to come under East Pakistan. So, it was a small compensation of what they deprived to East Pakistan.

Doyalbhai,

You got Khulna (Hindu majority) which was both populous and large in area. Murshidabad and Malda were very small in area. You were net gainers in terms of area in sq km.

The total Hindu pop in East Pak was around 12 mio as per 1941, total Muslim pop in WB and Assam was around 10 mio- had there been an exchange in pop as patriotic Bengalis like Shyama babu had suggested, there wud have been much more peaceful relations between Hindus and Muslims in Eastern India. And without instigation by Hindu professors possibly 1970-71 incidents wudnt have happened.

Polemics apart, someone who is interested in the partition of Bengal can read "The Spoils of Partition" by Prof Joya Chatterjee.

A few things have been established with this most recent Rohingya crisis.

One of which is Hasina needs to go. She is a snake and not good for the country.

Secondly, anyone who says Bangladesh has no enemies or doesn't need a strong armed forces should be labeled as idiots, myself included.

China is NOT some magical savior. Pakistanis also please take note.

Modi's India is a snake and not a friend of Bangladesh.

Also we need to realize when the chips are down, Bangladesh has no friends.

In fact, the only bond we have is that of Islam.

For that reason, foreign policy should be reset according to that reality.

And finally, the Indian trolls in the Bangladesh sub forum are turds.

We would be making another mistake if we think Burma is the ONLY and BIGGEST threat we have; we sure have bigger and more dangerous threats and since we don't have any friends, we need to achieve all the capabilities required to defend against those threats.

This event must be a big eye-opener for every Bangladeshi to have a clear idea about who is what.

Not quite.Murshidabad and Malda districts were agriculturally rich districts, moreover vital to control the water flow of Calcutta port.On the other hand, half of Khulna districts are Sundarban, not suitable for agriculture or settlement.Same is true for CHT, which is entirely mountainous and thinly populated.Much much more muslims were deprived of joining East Pakistan by giving Murshidabad and Malda to India than what non-muslim came under Pakistani rule due to Khulna+CHT going to Pakistan.Loosing Murshidabad and Malda was a bigger tragedy for East Pakistan

The argument I'm trying to make is that Bangladesh has no friends.

Not India, not China, not any other nation.

The only potential bonds we have with anyone are that we are Muslim. For this, at least Turkey was willing to help somewhat. Perhaps some other countries as well such as Iran. But of course, this aid is of limited nature.

In this current crisis, Bangladesh is screwed. Both India and China are essentially backing Myanmar for their own reasons.

What can Bangladesh do?

Is Bangladesh a real friend of India? Aren't you guys dreaming about playing China against India and stuff like that? For how long you have been blocking simple transit routes of India for which we are ready to pay and invest, and that too blocking it for no real reason? You call that friendship and then go on complaining that Bangladesh doesn't have any real friend?

Read my messages. Every one is purposeful, measured and reasonable.

LOL, its funny when you judge and qualify your own posts instead of others.

1 positive rating for your work so far. Keep it up.

And then a banglapithecus proves what I'm saying in post number 24

Hey @Bilal9 hope you enjoyed the 2017 human capital report ranking of you lot after you commited so much to it in your super BD argument with the 2016 one  Lost yet another argument and it adds to your bitterness.

Damn man, no wonder you lot earn less than half of us whether it be in the subcontinent or even in US. You earn about the same as the warzone-ethnicities in the US, just like your capital city gets ranked among them in liveability.

There's quite a few languages in the CHT. But, the main ethnic groups are the Marma, Chakma, and Tanchangya. Marma language is Sino-Tibetan, while Chakma and Tanchangya are Indo-Aryan and quite similar to Bengali actually. It's probably why they do better than the other ethnic minorities. Bengali Buddhists are mostly located in Chittagong away from the CHT. So most speak the distinct Chittagong dialect of Bengali. There's about 500,000 Bengali Buddhist I think, so the majority of Bangladesh's Buddhist are the Hill people.

how nice to learn that Bengali Buddhists are there in Bangladesh...Buddhism seems the natural religion for the argumentative, intellectual Bengali..Bengalis were strongest and almost conquered whole of North India under the Buddhist Pala Empire..........This also gives me confidence in my own decision....your post shows Bengalis still have civilizational links with Buddhism......I myself became a secular Buddhist in my adult life on my own accord, without ever having the knowledge that there are half a million Bengali Buddhists around...

I believe only in those parts of Buddhism that donot oppose the Scientific Materialist Model of the Universe

Firstly, my posts speak for themselves.

Secondly, it's a pretty sad reflection of your life if your source of self validation is the positive ratings you get on PDF.

In terms of earnings, its multifactorial and less to do with ethnicity and more to do with opportunity, work ethic, family support and circumstances and just plain luck.

Anecdotally, and admittedly very crude of me to say, but I'm fairly certain I make far more than your Tamil derrière.

Cool, more self-appraisal.

Just pointing something out that doesn't quite support your self-appraisal. But don't let that get in the way.

In terms of earnings, its multifactorial and less to do with ethnicity and more to do with opportunity, work ethic, family support and circumstances and just plain luck.

I was saying its 100% ethnic driven? The "other factors" manifest by and correlate to ethnicity quite strongly...though of course correlation is not causation. No need to deny it....its just an observance. Can look at the income and poverty stats for the BD people in UK and anywhere else they have migrated to in any significant number. There is a common thread. This subforum amply illustrates it too. So its funny when the Pavlovian ad-hominem comes out with little effort....and then the whatever waaah waaaah card of choice based on this inferiority complex follows soon enough....just because BD gets beaten up all the time, we should indulge and treat the BD sob stories as 100% truth. Thanks but no thanks.

Anecdotally, and admittedly very crude of me to say, but I'm fairly certain I make far more than your Tamil derrière.

As a big mouth self-appraiser, I wouldn't expect anything different. People that actually have discussed deep technical matters with me on this forum know where and who I work for and the likely commensurate earning range from that. So tell me why I should exactly care about what some pretty riffraff BD with not one but two US flags thinks and claims on the matter? What, you literally want me to post pictures of my house, cars, workplace and such? Will it end there? I think not, so I don't care.
