I agree that it is very hard politically. But the right thing to do is very clear. Accept refugees as per the international law. Push them back to their countries once things settle down. All these countries gleefully signed up for the humanitarian law and waved it in other countries' faces when they refused refugees. Now is the time to walk the talk.This is understandable, and I think this is truly a delicate balance of being humanitarian towards foreigner interests, and also the mandate of any government to safeguard the people whom they represent. In the end the Leaders of Europe have to outweigh who is more important: The security of over 500 million European citizens or to accommodate 2+ million refugees from the Middle East/ Africa.
This is not an easy issue. In fact is very hard, and the leaders of the EU have to make this call.
This will also build up consensus to do the most practical thing to stabilize Syria.
