Don't think anyone every claimed the Leopard-2 was the best, certainly a fine piece of engineering. It all comes down to training and tactics at the end of the day.

If anything Turkish usage and tactics should be examined and assessed, because that's likely where the breakdown occurred.

While Turkey is pressing its own Altay program into service, we're upgrading our A4NO models to A5 standard
Turkey is ruled by retarded people .They missed the chance for upgrade and still wait for a fiction with AKKOR called Altay, which will be produced 8 pieces per month after contract is signed. T-14 ARMATA platform is 20 years ahead.
( Crrewless turret with autoloader and optimum active and passive protection).

NG - developer claimed LEO-NG to better than Leo 2 A6.

I would add lack of optimum trained tank operators.

Turkey missed great chance to start NG upgrade program.
Turkish company claimed that NG is superior to Leopard 2 A6.

Maybe future tank concepts will learn from Al-Bab and analyze Armata concept claimed to be
20 years ahead of the West. Daily Mail / T-14 concept published 12. June 2015

The Leopard 2 Next Generation (NG) upgrade package for Leopard main battle tanks was developed by Aselsan of Turkey as a private venture. It was first revealed in 2011. Sometimes it is referred as the Leopard 2T. It could meet a potential Turkish Army requirement to upgrade its fleet of over 300 ex-German Leopard 2A4 MBTs until the locally-developed Altay becomes available. The Next Generation upgrade package is also proposed for other operators of the Leopard 2 main battle tanks. This tank is still used by a number of countries in large numbers. So the market for upgrades remains substantial. The Leopard 2 NG is broadly similar to the Rheinmetall Revolution upgrade package, which was revealed earlier in 2010.

The key areas of improvement in the Leopard 2NG upgrade include new fire control system, upgraded optics and improved protection. The Aselsan claims that upgraded main battle tanks are superior to the German Leopard 2A6 MBTs.

This main battle tank has improved protection. It is fitted with add-on modular armor package. Tank also has add-on mine protection modules. Composite add-on modules are made of advanced materials, such as ceramics and light alloys in order to absorb and minimize impact. Damaged modules can be easily replaced in field conditions. Also these can be upgraded when new armor becomes available.

Weight of the Leopard 2 Next Generation increased to 65 t, comparing with 56.6 t of the original Leopard 2A4. Although it is claimed that it retains mobility of its predecessor.

The Leopard 2NG retains its original 120-mm / L44 smoothbore gun. This gun is loaded manually. It is compatible with all standard NATO tank munitions. A total of 42 rounds are carried for the main gun. 15 rounds are stored in the turret bustle and are ready to use, while remaining rounds are stored in the hull.

This MBT is fitted with remote weapon station, armed with a 12.7-mm machine gun. There is also a coaxial 7.62-mm machine gun.

This main battle tank is fitted with new Volcan computerized fire control system, which was developed by Aselsan. It includes new sights, commander's 360° periscope with hunter/killer capability, and new sensors. The same fire control system is intended to be used on the new Altay MBT which is now under development. It was already used on the Turkish upgraded Leopard 1 tanks, locally designated as the Leopard 1T. It has improved first round hit probability against static and moving targets. The Leopard 2NG is also fitted with a battlefield management system.

Vehicle has a crew of four, including commander, gunner, loader and driver.

The Leopard 2NG retains its original MTU turbocharged diesel engine, developing 1 500 hp. Cross-country performance is similar to that of the Leopard 2A4. This main battle tank can be fitted with a deep wading kit. With preparation it can ford water obstacles up to 4 m deep.

Afghanistan :

Talibans had no Kornets or comparable - RPG's weren't effective.

Maybe . Many different expert opinions.

Russia’s 3rd-generation battle tank armor will be impenetrable for all existing and upcoming anti-tank missiles with a caliber of 120 mm, according to the company-developer of the tank, ‘NII Stal’.

The developers note that the T-14 Armata will be even protected from rocket launchers and anti-tank missiles with a caliber of up to 150 mm.

The T-14 Armata will also feature an advanced version of explosive reactive armor (ERA), which is able to withstand all commonly used NATO’s anti-tank missiles, according to a source at a top Russian military equipment company, which produces armor for Russian advanced tanks, as reported by Jane’s.

According to the source at the Russian Tractor Plants, the intimidating tank will feature an ERA system that was upgraded to the new high-end level and has “no known world equivalents.”

“The new ERA can resist anti-tank gun shells adopted by NATO countries, including the state-of-the-art APFSDS DM53 and DM63 developed by Rheinmetall [and] anti-tank ground missiles with high-explosive anti-tank warheads,” the source told Jane’s.

It is also known that the tank sports counter-mine defenses and features a set of HD videos cameras, which will allow the Armata operators to have a 360-degree view around the tank.

Armata tank will survive any attack from U.S. weapons
The Russian media reported that the Armata tank will be able to survive any attack from a U.S. Apache helicopter, a four-blade, twin-turboshaft attack helicopter with a tailwheel-type landing gear arrangement.

However, after the conducted review of the tank, the U.S. Army’s Foreign Military Studies Office dismissed such allegations and concluded that the Armata’s Afganit system would protect only from “shaped-charged grenades, antitank missiles, and subcaliber projectiles.”

The T-14 Armata is undoubtedly one of the most advanced and impenetrable tanks in the history. The cutting-edge tank model has already attracted the attention of India and China. Russian President Vladimir Putin has vowed that Russia would buy 2,300 T-14 Armata tanks by 2020, while the estimated cost for them is more than $7 million apiece.

The tank features an unmanned tank turret with a 125mm gun, which is able to fire 10 shots per minute thanks to its automatic charging system. The tank’s crew is securely protected by an armored capsule.

However, it is important to note that large deliveries of the tank will start in 2017 and 2018, while its competitor, Leopard 2A7, is already being delivered to NATO members’ armies.

still the Leo Provide better crew protection comparing to russian tanks
