a The figures for national military expenditure as a share of GDP are based on estimates for 2011
GDP from the IMF World Economic Outlook database, September 2011.

b The figures for military expenditure at PPP exchange rates are estimates based on the projected implied PPP conversion rates for each country from the IMF World Economic Outlook database, September 2011.

c The figures for Saudi Arabia include expenditure on public order and safety and might be slight overestimates.

No one asked your opinion about missiles and tanks, we have the money we will spend the way we want....better stay out of it if you can't have constructive discussion.

India -$112 billion...where did you get these figures?

sir, I dont come without any credible source of information :)

please click on the link as below and then open the file. for your information, SIPRI is among the most reputed source of information about defense expenditure of countries. but interestingly, Pakistan isn't in list with even $16bn defense budget on PPP like Australia ranked 15th

According to the IMF... PPP should NOT be used for international comparisons.

"The IMF considers that GDP in purchase-power-parity (PPP) terms is NOT the most appropriate measure for comparing the relative size of countries to the global economy, because PPP price levels are influenced by non-traded services, which are more relevant domestically than globally," the IMF said.

"The Fund believes that GDP at market rates is a more relevant comparison."

Especially not for India's defence budget, since even India's "indigenous" systems use imported components from other countries.

And with the Rupee falling as much as it has, only makes it worse, when most of your stuff is bought from overseas.

sir, out of total around $40bil defense budget of India, around 40% go on capital expenditure and only around 10% (25% of total capital expenditure) is imported, rest is domestically made. even if India is buying SU30mki, T90 tanks etc from Russia, their production lines are in fact based in India itself. so fall of rupees will have very less affects on Indian defence expenditure.

also, its the US$ which is being appreciated. and as Russia accounts for around 70% arms buying of India, please check the grapph as below, Russian currency and Indian rupees faced similar fall against US$, while Brazilian currency was the worst affected? :meeting:
