Pakistan has surplus generation capacity. What is needed is transmission and recovery. Why invest in new power generation capacity ?

I believe we need to explore avenues where we can utilize these massive coal reserves, be it gas for fertilizer plants or conversion of coal into fuel for various sectors. The way oil prices are rising and with american itch to trounce iran and thus get trump reelected via the jewish control media houses, it will not be far when the LNG price and the price of gas from coal will be comparable.
Moreover thar can be utilized in a different way as well... Lets say we set up industrial units near mithi, thatta and supply them comparatively cheaper and uninterrupted electricity via wind and coal power plants. kind of setting up an alternative distribution company for export oriented industrial zone which will be generation cost + minimal line losses + a small profit... In a 5 to 7 years when wind and coal tariffs start falling, this may turn out to be cheaper than the rate of electricity provided by wapda.

to turn gas production to coal production i am guessing

Pakistan should have never made the Gas search as prime news topic
our focus should be coal extraction , coal power plants to make electricity.

Secondary focus should be clean nuclear energy

Why not. I would say take $1 billion loan and search for oil reserve in south Baluchistan with full security. We just have wasted $4 billion in metro crap project which will result in bad service and then will vanish in thin air in few years.

As for coal project I hear in the news cost will be higher even with the coal project for energy?

I agree that GOP is not prioritizing it's energy goals correctly. Speculation on offshore discoveries is not a policy. Thar coal, Shale oil/gas, hydro, solar, biomass, wind these are the priorities. I'm not a huge fan of nuclear.... risky and expensive in my assessment.... especially compared to solar in our irradiance zone.

With the current Iran-USA standoff might keep oil and lng price elevated. Not good for Forex. Thar coal gasification- fertilizer plant should be a priority. Shale oil/gas extraction a priority. Bio ethanol production to mix with petrol...a priority. Mass transit...a priority.
