Thailand Navy thinks that Buying Chinese Submarines is a Bad Idea

Yes, vietnam and malaysia.

A waste of funds. Vietnam has no claims in the Gulf of Siam, and does not have the capacity to threaten the Thai Navy there. Cambodia's Navy is made up of Viet missile patrol boat hand me downs without missiles. The bulk of their navy is made up of riverine patrol boats armed with only 20 mm guns.

As for Malaysia; I wouldn't consider the Malaysian Navy a threat to the RTN. Thailand would put its money to better use in upgrading its air force as well as early warning systems, not so much its submarine fleet.

You are wrong here. Malaysian Navy is getting more powerful than the Thai navy, especially in a few years time when all their shiny ships will be commissioned (plus they are already operating Scorpenes). If Malaysia somehow go Islamo-fascist in the future, then that would be a big threat to Thailand, especially when the Thai already has problem in the south.

Thai military should prioritize their military acquisitions based on neutral countries. Countries such as Sweden, South Korea and their fellow ASEAN partners Indonesia will make much better partners in terms of military relationship.

While having relations with China and India is good, they are better off to have substantial acquisitions beyond this region that would allow them to steer out of political troubles later.

@Nihonjin1051 san, I think as a mentor nation you should look at better getting ASEAN partners together.

Sweden is a worthy candidate. Afterall, the Royal Thai Airforce already operates Jas Gripens, so there is a history of operating Swedish systems. The same can go for Chinese , however, since the Thai Navy does operate Type 025Ts and Type 053 frigates.

hahaha. I agree , they need to adopt Japan's non-interventionist policy. And not spending beyond one's means. Even now, Japan actually spends less than 0.9% of its GDP on defense. I hope Thailand and neighbors do the same. :P

Those Thai minister knows nothing . European sub price are comparable to Chinese one? I doubt Thai even have money to buy a midget sub from Europeans.

Yes, vietnam and malaysia.
Im sure they can but will require a lot of lady boys and go go girls as part of the deal :D
