We eventually had a Bose Acoustimass with the double cubes and the subwoofer. The sound was OK.
I still preferred our old Pioneer tower speakers to rock the sound so we kept them plugged in. The tv speakers were never used.
Yeah Acoustimass simply sold on a bunch of hype, primarily backed by one thing, the subwoofer and the relatively flawless rolloff to the satellites using the good crossover design from the lows to mids to highs. Like I said, the drivers were quite unimpressive Chinese ones when you consider that many British speakers (such as KEF) and even Canadian speaker companies made their own drivers from scratch (and their end products did not cost any more than what Bose charged). All marketing....and they made a killing selling these.
Pioneer made some good tower designs back in the day (and still does). I am into the characteristic warmth, precision and cozyness of smaller bookshelf speakers (handmade and higher quality for the price). I prefer British and Scandinavian designs, but Canadian ones are good too.
