Srinagar: Security agencies probing the June 24 attack on Indian Army convoy have stumbled upon a video which clearly shows two persons firing indiscriminately on military trucks, thus getting first clear images of the alleged attackers believed to behind the daring assault which claimed eight soldiers.
The highly subversive video, uploaded on Facebook, also features text eulogizising the separatist militancy movement in Kashmir, consequently bearing resemblance to similar videos which regularly appear in wake of ‘fidayeen’ attacks in insurgency-afflicted countries of Iraq and Afghanistan.
That if the video has been uploaded by Hizbul Mujahideen, a banned organization which claimed responsibility for the attack, still remains unclear.
Reports, however, quote Indian Army officers casting doubt over the veracity of the video.
While Hizbul admitted of being behind the attack earlier, a newspaper quoted investigators claiming that the ambush might have been masterminded by wanted Lashkar-e-Toiba(LeT) commander Mohammad Qasim.
“Qasim was behind the army attack in Srinagar. Three-year-old on Kashmir's militancy scene, LeT divisional commander Qasim is emerging as a dreaded commander who spearheaded three major operations in the Valley, including the abortive bid to storm Silver Star hotel in October 2012 on the outskirts in Srinagar and an attack on an army patrol near Pampore in July 2012. He is chiefly operating from south Kashmir,” a report in Hindustan Times says.
