Tens of millions of Indian workers strike in fight for higher wages

You dont have to pay them according to the law, they are illegal,no-one will know or cares what they get paid.

Its sad but true, i'm just saying such activities are not even open secrets anymore, by taking advantages of the illegals for the benefits for my state "Texas" at least doesn't sounds too well

.
But minimum wages law in China really matters...
Factories move around China to pay less....
And minimum wage does not include welfare such as 5 insurances and pension, and excludes extra pay for extra hours and bonus...
In actual life, workers get much more....
Foxconn's low-skilled workers receive monthly salary (include bonus) more than 4000-5000 yuan.

Law is not always implemented in it's spirit in Third World countries

.
The current minimum wage for each state is just fine, but some Business's want greater profits that's why they try to avoid paying the minimum wage
Let me tell u how minimum wage works here.
Take my cousin for example, he is a youth teacher at a secondary university in Central China.

The minimum wage here is 1500-1600yuan.
So, officially their school only pays him like 3000 yuan as his "official" salary. Why so low? Because the obligatory five insurances and pension are related to your basic salary. You will pay for example 10% of your basic salary as your housing fund, then the school has to pay another 10%.

But apart from the basic salary, the school will pay him 5000-6000yuan per month extra bonus and around 20k-30k year-end bonus. These bonuses do not affect how much you and your employers are gonna pay for your welfare!

Well, its the same all over the world and there is not much to do about it but the good thing is that the small amount they get is still better then what they get at home(if they find a job in their home country),they can still feed the family and send the kids to school, maybe build a house etc..

That's why there are so many illegal workers from Southeast Asia in China! They are so poorly paid but still they are flooding here helped by smugglers. U know there are also North Korean workers in China sent by NK government!

Save for later
A nationwide strike by tens of millions of Indian public sector workers has been hailed by union officials as “the world’s largest ever” industrial action, and cost the economy up to 180bn rupees (£2bn), according to an industry group.

Last-minute concessions by the finance and labour ministries, including a 104-rupee rise in unskilled workers’ daily minimum wage, could not ward off the strike against what unions said were the “anti-worker and anti-people” policies ofNarendra Modi’s government.

State banks and power stations were shut and public transport was halted in some states on Friday, and 20 protesters were arrested in West Bengal after allegedly damaging government buses, police official Anuj Sharma told the AFP news agency.

Schools and colleges in Bangalore were closed as a precautionary measure, and 4,200 buses sat idle in Haryana. Mumbai and Delhi avoided major disruptions but surgeries were delayed at a major hospital in the capital while nurses demonstrated outside. Images broadcast on Indian TV showed protesters blocking railway tracks and roads in Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha.

Among the trade unions’ 12 demands were a 692-rupee daily minimum wage, universal social security and a ban on foreign investment in the country’s railway, insurance and defence industries.

A nationwide bandh – Sanskrit for closed – on the same day last year reportedly involved 140 million workers, and union said Friday’s protests involved 150 million, a figure that could not be verified. Nor could the claim by Assocham, the peak group for Indian chambers of commerce, that the disruption to supply chains and businesses cost the country’s economy 180bn rupees.

Just one major union pulled out of the national strike: the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, which, like the ruling party, is an affiliate of the Hindu nationalist group Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

Modi won power in 2014 promising to replicate across India the double-digit economic growth he oversaw as Gujarat’s chief minister. He steered a landmark national goods and services tax through India’s parliament last month and has opened up sectors such as defence and aviation for foreign investment.

marxists and their unions live on earth to strike rather than do work....worldwide marxist cancer phenomenon that's all they do

Observed only in Leftist states like Kerala & West Bengal. Rest of India believes in working and earning rather than wasting valuable time in strikes.

All these Marxist remain poor forever...I know hundreds of farmers from interior sindh who were bankrupted by these Marxist scum and had to surrender all their possessions to their creditors...and then come and work in saudi at 800 riyal wages as agriculture labor...

It works sort of the same in India. There is a basic salary, and allowances based on the basic salary. And then there's one or two insurance schemes.

Central govt employees are very well paid.

The minimum wage argument the unions are making is for unskilled workers. They are asking for the same pay as what unskilled central govt employees get paid. That's Rs692 per day.

The central govt can obviously afford it, but the private sector and state govts can't.
