A 27-year-old student from Warangal district of Telangana was shot dead near his apartment in California late Friday night, his family said Sunday. Mamidala Vamsi Reddy, a student of the Silicon Valley University, was found dead at the parking lot of the apartment in Milpitas city. He had gone for a walk after dinner.

The victim’s brother-in-law Srinivas Reddy said that one of Vamsi’s roommates called them early Saturday, informing them about the incident. “We were told that Vamsi was found dead by the police who reached the spot, responding to a carjacking call by a woman,” he said.

“Vamsi had gone out for a walk after having dinner. After some time, someone told his friends that a person was shot in the parking area,” said Srinivas, adding that Vamsi’s cellphone was switched off and the police are yet to identify the assailants.

Srinivas said they received a call from an official from the Ministry of External Affairs, saying that they were trying to get more details. Vamsi, son of a farmer, hailed from Vangapahadu village and had gone to the US to pursue MS in computer science in September 2015. He was living in the apartment with four friends. “He had gone to the US one and a half years ago. The last time he spoke to his parents was on Wednesday,’’ Srinivas said.

Do you all even bother to read the article or research the incident from other sources before coming out all barking?

He was killed while attempting to prevent a carjacking in progress. I don't know what you think about an armed criminal but I would think that especially in the US, if you get in the way of an armed criminal - chances are you will die.

The carjacker in question has one goal - grab the car and GTHO. Do you honestly think that in the heat of the moment, a carjacker will think "oh this guy getting in my way is of X ethnicity so I'll kill him"?? Or do you think that the carjacker would think "oh this guy trying to foil my plans & potentially get me caught is a white christian! So I won't shoot him...instead I will happily surrender and spend my life in jail! Wheeee!"

If you think any of the two above thoughts is how a criminal would think...you're dead wrong.

And of course...all this is assuming the carjacker in question was a white man. Chances are, he might as well be a Black/Latino as they constitute the biggest sect of criminals. If he is, then that itself cancels out all your ideas.

You can individually verify the numbers through the internet & official records if you bother. Blacks & Latinos constitute some of the lowest-earning and least educated sect of US population - it is natural for such a demographic to have a high crime rate. In any country, the lowest-rung of the economic ladder are more susceptible to crimes like theft or murder associated with theft. It doesn't matter what their race is.

I'm not saying they are blacks, therefore criminals. I'm saying blacks/latinos constitute the highest number of criminals owing to their unenviable economic background - if you put a white man in their shoes, he too will be susceptible to the same career choices (crime).

I don't live in the US so I can state the facts as they are regarding their demographics. There is a huge regressive left-wing movement to absolve all colored minorities from responsibility for their actions so that they are not branded as racist. Trust me, this mentality of not pointing out one's wrongdoings because he's black/brown has thoroughly frustrated America's largest demographic - whites.

It's one of the prime reasons for Trump's win.

Hindu Indians constitute the highest-earning and therefore the most economically well-off community in the entire American demographic. Even higher than Jews, other Asians (Japanese/Taiwanese) or White Europeans. And you do know that there is a section of white christians who can't tolerate it if someone is doing better off than them - that's the reason why the Jews are still despised in many backward places in the West. And most Jews are white europeans!

So yeah, while Indians do face some persecution because of race, it can hardly be considered our fault and it would be doing us an injustice to group us together with the Hispanic/Black minorities who's main problem is not having a sound economic background or education - therefore forcing them to turn to crime.

OK I will admit that there is some logic to your arguments however realities on the ground cannot be judged by statistics unless you have lived here for years, which I have.

Indians earn more than any other group not because of their talent but because it is mostly educated Indians settled in the US who naturally have higher salaries.

95% of Indian underclass cannot get visas to go to the US. And its not all IIT and IIM grads either. Its a mix of middle class college-educated Indians and a huge portion of Telengana H1B folks who are underpaid. Thank the US tech sector for taking these people and favoring Indian IT outsourcing companies. Otherwise India would not know what to do with these people.

Come live here in the US first - stats and academic views don't tell the real story.

And any way you slice and dice it - you cannot justify racism. I know it comes easy living within Indian culture (discrimination is more or less sanctioned by your politicos) but it does not play right where I live. You get educated for a reason, not simply to tow the line of white pseudo-racists. The uneducated White trash can go pound sand for all I care.

Hyderabad: Police in Milpitas, California on Wednesday, identified the killer of Warangal resident Vamshi Reddy Mamidala as being Stuart Baronngaue — a 30-year-old resident of Fremont. Vamshi was shot dead near the parking garage of an apartment building in Milpitas on February 10.

The police in a press release said Baronngaue was on parole and had an outstanding felony (serious crime) warrant for probation violation.

Explaining the sequence of events, Milpitas police said that on Friday, Feb. 10, at around 10.45 pm, officers responded to a report of a single car collision on South Main Street in Milpitas.

A man, now identified as Baronngaue, was seen getting out of the car and running towards Ilara Apartments. Cops say he then confronted a woman with a firearm and took her car keys and stole her car parked in the apartment.

As officers arrived in the area, they heard an apparent gunshot and saw a car speed away. A short pursuit ensued and the car ultimately collided with another vehicle. Officers on the scene were able to take the single driver, Baronngaue, into custody. A search of the vehicle revealed a firearm located in the front passenger seat area. Vamshi’s body was found after police searched the apartment complex.

But it’s not clear why Baronngaue shot at Vamshi Mamidala. Police also didn’t confirm if the gunman had opened fire at Vamshi while the latter was trying to intervene and save the woman who was the actual target. Meanwhile, back home in Warangal, Vamshi’s family have called for Stuart Baronngaue to be hanged for his crime.

New Delhi: India on Thursday ruled out "hate crime" being the motive behind the killing of a 26-year-old Indian man in Santa Clara County of California last week.

"It was not a hate crime from any stretch of imagination. It is a case of carjacking. He (the victim) happened to be at a wrong place at a wrong time," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, adding the government was bearing the expenses to bring the body back.

Earlier this week, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had tweeted that the culprit responsible for the killing of the Indian, Mamidala Vamshi Chander Reddy has been arrested. She had also assured all assistance to the family of the deceased.

She had said that according to the report from Indian Consulate in San Francisco, Reddy was killed by a drug addict last Friday evening at Milpitas.

According to Reddy's family, the incident happened when he was returning after completing his part-time shift at a local store in Milpitas.

Reddy had gone to California in 2013 and completed his MS in Silicon Valley University. While he was looking for a job in the software industry in the US, he recently took up a part-time assignment at a local store.

Warangal: The mortal remains of student Vamshi Reddy Mamidala, who was shot by a drug addict carjacker in California last week, arrived at his native village, Vangapahad, in Hasanparthy mandal of Warangal Urban district on Friday morning.

The dead body was flown to Hyderabad from California during the wee hours of Friday and brought to Warangal in an ambulance.


Villagers in large numbers turned up to have a final look of the village lad who, against all odds, decided to go abroad and pursue his dreams.

His father Sanjeeva Reddy and mother Rama Devi were inconsolable after looking at the lifeless body of their beloved son. Relatives and friends could not control their grief either.

Vamshi’s father, a farmer, earlier said the family always wanted him to take up a job in India, but he went abroad as most of his friends were there.

The man who shot Vamshi was being chased by the police as he was involved in an accident.

As he made an attempt to escape, he robbed a woman and took her mobile phone and cash. He also took away her car and drove to the apartment complex where Vamshi was staying. However, as Vamshi’s car was entering the complex, it collided with the addict’s stolen car in the garage. Angered, the addict got out of the vehicle, shot Vamshi and fled.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had extended support to the family and initiated efforts to bring the body back to the country. The state government too announced support to the family.

Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya is expected to visit Vangapahad and console the family.

The cremation procession will start in the afternoon.
