Nice to see this in China. in the west, some students treat teachers like shit. Teachers are not respected profession in Canada. People go in it for the 8 weeks vacation, high pay, low effort, stability of the job. Students learn more surfing the internet.

In Chinese saying, 一日为师，终身为父。One day be a teacher, be the father for the rest of the life.....
My grandpa was a high school math teacher in a school deep in the mountains....His students visited him yearly, when he died, they cried like they lost their father. And they still visit his tomb very often, and also treat us as their close relatives.

For the younger generations, though the life is much better (in the time of my grandpa, he sometimes cooked for those from the poorest peasant family and gave them money. Those students knew nothing about their future career at that time, my grandpa actually helped them choose their university based on his knowledge and understanding of his students), we still treat our teachers like our family. We visit our teachers very often and share our news with them.

Yu Cheng, a teacher at a local vocational school in my province, majoring in numerical control.
She has a certificate of senior engineer (equivalent to professor and chief physician in terms of pension).
But she's refused all the invitations from renowned companies, and dedicated all her life in the secondary vocational school (equivalent to high school) for 21 years!!! She tutors her students in winter/summer vacation for 8 years, and they have won many gold medals in the Skill China Competition. And she has also trained nearly 200 teachers for the province.

To be honest, I thought Teacher's day is just another day. That's what it's like in Australia.
I didn't know Teacher's day is such a big deal in China. But then looking back, education is very important to the Confucian culture, so it's to be expected!

在120周年校庆之际，上海交通大学官方微博8日转发了一张照片，在校庆活动中，92岁的老学长，在演讲时毅然推开了为他准备的椅子，他就是上海交大1949届造船系校友、中国核潜艇之父、中国工程院院士黄旭华。
