Tarique in closed-door meeting in London

London, July 4 (bdnews24.com)Senior BNP vice-chairman Tarique Rahman has been holding an exclusive meeting in a local restaurant in London on Sunday with party activists from different countries.
The main opposition party's UK unit president Kamar Uddin is coordinating the meeting, which was underway around noon at the Ramna Restaurant at South Gate Town Hall.
Only the top local BNP leaders and activists were allowed in the meeting and the press was barred from covering it.
A senior BNP leader of the UK unit, asking not to be named, told bdnews24.com that some 40 party leaders and activists were attended the meeting.
He also confirmed participation of leaders from other countries too, although he did not name the countries.
The UK top leader also directed the volunteers to keep journalists off.
The BNP leaders and representatives were gathering at the restaurant, owned by Kamar Uddin, at North London around 1:30pm local time.
The meeting insiders were taken to the Town Hall near from the restaurant.
Tarique reached the spot on crutches around 2:30pm. Party activists escorted him to the meeting.
The organisers did not let two TV reporters one from the NTV and another from ATN Bangla enter the meeting.
bdnews24.com's correspondent reports that they were not only refused entry but the organisers were also rude to them and threatened to take away their cameras.
The closed-door meeting at South Gate Hall restricted the participants from carrying even their mobile phones.
The meeting has predictably sparked off speculations among London's Bangladeshi community.
Leaders of one faction of the BNP's London unit, itself riddled with internal rifts, have expressed their ire for not being allowed into the meeting.
BNP chief Khaleda Zia's elder son, Tarique had held a meeting with the London BNP leaders earlier this year.
Tarique, who fell sick in custody during the previous army-installed caretaker government following alleged torture on him, flew to London on Sep 11, 2007 for treatment after obtaining bail in all the cases.
He was arrested by the joint forces on Mar 7 that year after the state of emergency was clamped and during detention, he fell seriously ill with pain in the waist and spinal injuries.
He faces 13 cases, which include charges of extortion and corruption.
