TAPI Natural Gas Pipeline Project to be Launched in 2021

Pakistan's imports fr India would be higher than exports yes.

BUT

We will be replacing less costly imports of vegetables, wheat, sugar from far countries with relatively cheap easy to get Indian alternatives. I mean we buy sugar from other countries for a price more than 20% of what India offers. This 20% is too much of a difference when you are talking about imports worth billions of dollars.

Other example is bikes and cars. The price that an Indian can gets a car or bike in India is almost 50% less than what we are being charged in Pakistan. Same car, same specifications, same model. Though less quality. Just compare the two markets and it's prices.

If we shift our imports from other countries to India. Even though maybe our imports will reach to $6+ . Still we will be saving atleast $2+ as compare to our current imports. These savings plus add our exports to them. And we are good
Yes to agricultural imports, no to cars. cars will have a similar cost anyways, less transportation rate.

An alto cost 40% less in India (in shop) as compare to Pakistan. This is just one example.

Pakistan should invest in land route for gas supplies. SLOC can be jeopardize in case of war.

Russia considers TAPI pipeline idea interesting — special envoy

Everything will depend on the commercial side of the issue, Zamir Kabulov pointed out

MOSCOW, January 31. /TASS/. Moscow views the idea of Russia’s participation in the TAPI (Turkmenistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan - India) gas pipeline project as "politically attractive," special envoy of the Russian President Zamir Kabulov told TASS in an interview.

"Such perspective appears politically attractive. The matters of supporting security for this project earlier considered to be the most challenging have lost their acuteness at this stage," the Russian diplomat said.

Russian economic entities will nevertheless have the last word on participation in the gas pipeline project, Kabulov noted. "Everything will depend on the commercial side of the issue, on profitability of their participation in implementation of this project," the special envoy added.

Construction of TAPI kicked off in December 2015 in Turkmenistan. The pipeline will have the length of 1,814 km and the capacity of 30 bln cubic meters of natural gas per year.

Russia is interested in supplying materials (pipelines, machinery procurement) and pipeline laying, basically in being a procurement and construction contractor/ sub contractor for TPCL, the other interested party being CNPC.

TAPI Pipeline Route

The 1,814-kilometer TAPI pipeline will pass through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India. About 816 kilometres of the TAPI pipeline route will be through Afghanistan. The pipeline passes through Herat, Farah, Nimroz, Helmand and Kandahar provinces of Afghanistan.

The TAPI pipeline will be developed beside the Kandahar–Herat Highway which will then connect to Quetta and Multan in Pakistan. The concluding destination of the TAPI pipeline will be the Indian town of Fazilka in the Punjab region.

Looks like Russia would like to take charge of the finances, construction and operation of these energy projects. India being a growing economy would devour more and more energy. And, Pak is the link to that in a cost effective manner....

.
Do you think the Afghan part of the route will finish on schedule given the current security and political environment there? 🤔
