Insurgents must accept constitution and become part of mainstream: Army Chief
Youm-e-Shuhada was observed nationwide to pay homage to nation's martyrs.
Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif said on Wednesday that Pakistan Army believes in stability of democracy and constitutional supremacy, and that all institutions are working together for the success of democratic system, Dunya News reported.
Addressing central ceremony to pay tribute to nation’s martyrs at General Headquarters (GHQ), he said that Pakistan faces internal and external challenges, adding that army supports every effort of government to restore peace.
He urged rebels and insurgents to give up arms and join national mainstream by accepting constitution.
He said that Pakistan armed forces are fully capable of dealing with insurgents who challenge state’s writ.
Army Chief said that Pakistan Army has fulfilled people’s expectations in every test because of people’s support in lifting army’s morale.
He urged all institutions to work collaboratively for the success of democratic system. He said that army believes in stability of democracy and supremacy of constitution.
He said that no one should doubt Pakistan Army’s abilities, adding that he assures that Pakistan Army will crush enemy’s motives.
Army Chief said that Pakistan Army is ready to respond to any aggression at all times. He said that youngsters are a valuable asset of Pakistan.
Talking about Kashmir dispute, Army Chief said that Kashmir is Pakistan’s jugular vein and that sacrifices offered by people of Kashmir will not go in vain. He said that Kashmir dispute should be resolved as per expectations of Kashmiri people.
Army Chief also paid tribute to the role of media and civil society in national development.
The ceremony was graced by prominent personalities including a large number of heirs of martyrs.
