I think this meme about sums it up. Besides I believe the US and Taliban kissed and made up ten years ago. But the US couldn't publicly be seen taking the keys of Afghanistan from Ghani and handing it over to the Taliban. Why do you think the ANA wasn't paid for the last three months?

Talban would just tell US one thing ..Trade not Aid. And even with that US will have to compete with others. The socalled Uzbek-afg-pak trade agreement shows you whats in line..So US leaves behind a functioning capital and economy nation for Talban and continues building their country , on top loses its repute at home for aiding its former enemy. Something not appealing for US strategists so the best thing US could do right now is wait an watch and hope Talban fall in conflict with wither Russia, China or Pakistan and IT WILL fund miscreants for such an outcome..
The only reason Obama decided to drawdown in 2011 was the financial crisis of 2008 as well as its failure to get onboard either one China or Russia with regards to its long term settlement plan. The US is close to Taliban as well you forget we've been entertaining them for ten plus years in Doha.

There is no sudden embrace of the Taliban. Major powers have been talking directly to the Taliban for some years. The US and world powers lost patience with the parasitic Ghani regime, the US, China and Russia are all aligned and in direct consultation on Afghanistan. If you notice, the Taliban repeat the same message over and over again to the US, China and Russia and it is consistent.

1. We will not allow Afghanistan to be used to stage terror attacks against any other nation.
2. We will permit females to seek education and work within an Islamic framework.
3. We will engage with all foreign partners to seek investments.
4. We want lasting peace and an inclusive government

It remains to be seen if the Taliban can pull it off. I wouldn't be surprised to hear Biden release Afghan funds and aid in the coming weeks so the Taliban have funds to run the country.

China's state television 6 is broadcasting the films <Dunkirk> and <a dog's way home>.
If China and the USA have a consensus on Afghanistan, the Chinese government will not laugh at the Americans like this.
I believe there is an agreement between the Taliban and the USA, but that does not mean that China is also involved.
