The Japanese government said Tuesday it will extend $6 million in emergency aid for Syrian refugees who were hit by a cold wave in January.

With the Japanese aid, food and cold protection goods will be given to displaced people within Syria as well as those who have fled from the war-torn Middle Eastern nation to neighboring Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon through relevant organizations such as the World Food Program.

This is not part of the $200 million humanitarian assistance pledged by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during his Middle East tour in January but part of additional aid also promised by the prime minister later, government officials said.

:-) More countries should follow to show the people of Syria that they stand with them in these troubled times.

Way to go! Next step is removing sanctions against the Syrian people it confuses me why would Japan sanction the people of Syria...

IMHO, $6 million is not enough. They should increase this to at least $20 million. More food, milk, pediatric nutrition substitutes, as well as medical supplies should be sent en masse. I think medical and food aid will help more to calm the region instead of arms aid.

This is my Personal Opinion.

removing sanctions against the Syrian people

I agree with you.

Good to see Japan getting more involved/helping other countries/refugees. Good initiative.

I have no doubt in Japan's generosity, but Japan has to make sure the aid is going to the right people, which will take time... Also Japan have pledged of 100 million dollar aid in 2013 to Syrian refugees..

The Syrian people will never forget the help they got from Japan and others..

And yes removing sanctions will help the people, because trust me the politicians are not effected by the sanctions but the people...

Syria wouldn't have needed this help if the US and its allies didn't fund the terrorists in the first place. It's the heigh of perversion to act like a Samaritan after the country has been bombed into a paradise for terrorists that are funded by the very same group of countries that causes all the mess.

Yes, my brother, let's just hope and pray for God's blessings to bear fruit. Syria and the Syrian people are in my prayers, and hope more can be done by Japan to ease the suffering there.

Japan showing what is love for humanity. Well done Japan, my appreciation and love for Japan just increases ever more.

Thank you bro. It is hard sometimes for us to comprehend the kinds of difficulties the refugees are experiencing now. 3 million in Turkey, and now over a million in Jordan living in tents during this winter... :(

It breaks my heart to see sight like this...
