Which is why Turkey as a nation is THE Muslim success story in the world. Why should getting in the EU be a big deal? Turkey provides for her people very well. Isn't that enough?

Turkey can afford to stand to Israelis because it is powerful. It power lies in the came basis set by Mustafa Kemal. Lets see if any other country can achieve a flotilla feat?? Libiya is trying but their scared captain agreed to divert course already.

Turkey is intent on developing itself regardless of membership in EU. It has not limited itself to any such vision. It also has a strategy to expand its influence in east and arab world. And is enough reason to give loose motions to arab oil monarchs.

For all these achievements, we are happy for turkey regardless of its membership in EU.Ohh and Turkey is also an influencial member of NATO and boast the largest F16 fleet after America.

Just like Ottoman Turks laid the foundation of revolutionaly Islamic welfare state, Mutafa Kemal has been the visionary of 21st century secular Islamic state. 50 years on no one from the competing faction from Maududi to Wahabis of Arabia have come close of achieving what the idealogical revolution of Mustafa Kemal did in proving itself. I have great respect for this man.

He proved to the world that Islamic identity is not about wearing loose pajamis and shuttle burqas. But it is about a vison of brotherly solidarity, peace, freedom, strong defense, principles and mutual intrests.

Niqab and beard have little to do with religiousity and more with outward symbolism. The kind of idealogy which breeds jahalat and mullahism. It turns into a popular cult and then cultural groups giving in easy way to hard liners. The focus shifts from education to religious.

The roots of biggest fasad among Islamic nation today emerge from outward symbolism.

Oil sheikhdoms are flocking to build favourable ties with Turkey because now their own soil is riddled with bad fruit whose seeds they planted few decades ago. Turkey has unlimited option of taking on these sheikhdoms.

It has got everything to do with religion. Turkey is a secular country having 99% Muslim population. Does that ring a bell?

A lot...keeping religion out of the state's affairs is a signature achievement by Turkey among Muslim nation states.No surprise that it has developed quickly.

Indonesia is another example where religion has been kept out of state affairs and it is probably the second best developed Muslim state.

Both these nations have developed with human capital not by selling resources like oil ...and human capital is best developed when you keep religion out of state affairs.

Any country that separates religion from schools/government/etc will progress. What is the laughing matter we are the most modern/economically strong Muslim nation in the world and our economy doesn't depend on a little black resource. Go ahead and laugh at how we can't get into the EU.

EU or no EU, veil shouldnt have any place among us. I personally have criticized Turkey alot about some specific issues, but among other muslims countries they are doing well by keeping the middle path, they are doing good and we should learn from them.
