Syrie: l'armée s'empare d'une autre localité près de la frontière libanaise - L'Orient-Le Jour
The Syrian army took over on Wednesday the Ras al-Aïn town, near the Lebanese border, gaining ground in this part of the Qalamoun region after taking back on Sunday another rebel city.
"Units of the army have taken Ras al-Aïn, to the southwest of Yabroud, killing a great many terrorists", indicated the official agency Sana which, according to the regime's official terminology, employs the word "terrorists" to refer to the rebels.
Public television has divulges images directly from Ras al-Aïn, showing women dancing and singing happily.
On Sunday, after months of battles and clashes, the regime's troops, supported by Hezbollah fighters, took over Yabroud, the last major rebel bastion in the Qalamoun, a montainous region to the north od Damascus.
The regime forces have henceforth as an end "secure the border entirely and close all points of passage into Lebanon", said on Monday a chargé of the security services in Damascus.
By that the army understand taking over Rankous, to the south of Yabroud, and Flita and Ras al-Maara, to the northwest, according to him.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), violent battles were unfolding on Wednesday by a checkpoint in Rankous.
The regime's troops and pro-regime militants, supported by Hezbollah, were fighting also the rebels and Jihadi forces around the Bakhaa and Jobeh town, also in the Qalamoun region, according to SOHR.
In the central province of Homs, the army has entered the al-Hosn region where one finds the famous Crusader fortress of Krak des Chevaliers, has also said to AFP a source from the security services.
"The army has penetrated al-Hosn and has captured one half of the town. It's shelling bombarde around Krak des Chevaliers to take over control of this castle" from the hands of the rebels, explained that source.
