Swiss woman gang-raped in Madhya Pradesh, eight detained


DATIA (MP): A Swiss woman was gang-raped by a group of eight unidentified persons in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh, police said today.

The incident took place near the town late last night when the woman along with her husband was touring the region on a bicycle as part of their India tour, Datia SP, C S Solanki told PTI.

The couple was camping at a place on their way back from Orchha, where temples of Lord Ram are situated, and were proceeding to Agra when they were looted and the victim was allegedly gangraped in the presence of her husband, police said.

The woman has been admitted to Kamalaraje hospital in Gwalior and her medical tests have confirmed rape, police sources said.

Eight persons have been rounded up on the basis of suspicion and are being questioned in connection with the case, the SP said.

"We are scouring the forest area in search of those involved in the crime," he said without giving more details.

The woman was not just brutally raped, the husband was also assaulted and looted of personal belongings.

A Swiss woman was allegedly gangraped by seven men in the Datia district in Madhya Pradesh. The woman was cycling along with her husband from Orchha in MP to Agra in Uttar Pradesh.
The couple was camping near Jhadia village when seven men allegedly looted them and raped the woman. A case has been registered against seven unidentified people in Datia Civil Lines police station in Madhya Pradesh.
Reports say the woman's husband was also beaten up. The men also stole the couple's laptop and fled the scene.

That poor couple was camping . They must have planned for months collecting money and dreaming of the joy and peace they would feel while on their vacation but they met with a terrible incident . I feel sorry for that couple and as for the animals who did this such men can be present anywhere so we shouldn't bash indians as I am sure not all of them are rapists plus dont forget they have a handsome muslims population so they indeed have some sane people .It also is a fault of that couple as there are so many beautiful peace full places across plant why to come to such a place which many humanrights activits now want to be called rapistan instead of hindustan . Goa see every year dozens of such incidents and its across india delhi,kolkata,bombay chennai nothing is save for a woman but their problem cant be solved as they are unfortunate enough to be born in india but atleat these foreign tourists should avoid india infact I feel the best thing would be to ban your nationals from going to india for vacations and especially with your wife's and daughters as you never know what destiny awaits you.

Offer your condolences, condemn the incident, offer some advice on how this menace can be tackled, what needs to be done socially, where the Law is wrong etc...no need to turn it into a versus thread and start Indo-Pak war 4.0

Sick. Its shows the depravity of these animals who live in our societies. Rape is a sick crime and my condolonces goes out to the victim in this case. Forum members, mocking the incident is mocking the victim. Please show some respect for her dignity which was already grieviously impaired by these dogs. May they be slowly tortured in some dungeon if found guilty

Unless the identity of the suspects have been revealed, how did you figure that the rapists weren't possibly Indian Muslims ?

Swiss tourist gang-raped in India

DELHI: Indian police say a Swiss tourist has been gang-raped and her husband was reportedly hit with sticks before the couple were robbed.

The pair were on a cycling trip in the impoverished Madhya Pradesh state, when they were attacked by seven to eight men.

It comes just a few days after the man accused of leading the gang rape of a student on a Delhi bus was found hanged in his prison cell.

Police say Ram Singh took his own life in the high-security Tihar jail where he had been on suicide watch in an isolated cell.

The case made headlines around the world and raised the issue of sexual violence against women in India.

The student's internal injuries were so bad she died two weeks later in a hospital in Singapore despite surgery to try to save her.

The latest attack happened at a village near Datia where the 39-year-old woman and her husband were camping. They had stopped there while on their way from Orchha to Agra.

According to the woman's husband, a group of seven men with lathis (wooden sticks) in their hands overpowered him.

He said four of them gang-raped his wife and then beat him up.

The woman was taken to a hospital in Gwalior where a medical examination confirmed that she was gang-raped.

Police in Datia have detained eight men and the couple will be asked to try to identify the accused, NDTV reported.

Leave it be. After the Delhi rape saga, Indians need to identify rape as a major problem in our country. If we have to discuss it on a Pakistani forum so be it. Every bit of shame which hits India on this issue will hopefully make the laws grow harsher there , police investigation becoming swifter and culprits being handed out stiff sentences when it comes to rape , women and child abuse.
