Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take up at the UN the issue of alleged atrocities against the Shia community in Pakistan if these continued.

"If the atrocities against Shia community continue any longer, I urge Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take up the matter against Pakistan at United Nations," Swamy said in a statement.

He said India has a sizeable population of Shia community and therefore it is legitimate to take up the issue with Pakistan on the question of religious freedom.

Thank You India.

Although it is Just a Plea by a Politician ,So Highly unlikely to Happen .But Even If Hypothetically India proceeds to take this Issue in UN, It would further lead to marginalisation of Shia Community in Pakistan. Shia will be labeled as Pro Hindu /Pro India, Which would lead to further Blood bath of Shias by Sunni Extremists .

Most Indians don't give a damn about Iran.

Pew did a poll a while back on public opinion of Iran and the country with the highest approval rating of Iran was Pakistan (at 76%) while India was at 19%. However, if you go by Pakistan's ratings you can be sure the majority of those favorable views coming from India are generated by Muslims so in reality, if you remove Muslims from the picture, only about 9% of Indians actually like Iran which explains why they voted against Iran three times at the IAEA while Pakistan (whose scientist is blamed for giving Iran it's enrichment technology in the first place) never voted against your country.

India just wants to use this as a way to take the focus away from state sponsored murder of Kashmiri's who are Pakistani's as we share the same ancestry which is different from Indians.

The only reason India maintains relations with Iran is because they need sources of fuel. The Indians are already abiding by US sanctions and cutting back on Iranian oil/gas imports (42% reduction in oil imports from Iran alone in 2013).

Think about it logically. When the Dalit community in India is treated like crap by the larger population why would a Swami or the government in general give a damn about any other group?

Here we see hypocrisy at its worst. This Subramanian swamy once proclaimed that muslims in india should be disenfranchised (ie, not be allowed to vote). Throughout his political career, he has spewed venom against muslims. Now suddenly he has a newfound love for shias, when it becomes politically expedient to do so. Such statements would have been credible from anybody, if s/he had not built up a career preaching islamophobia.

@iranigirl2 : Before you express gratitude to Mr Swamy, you might want to read some of his previous statements WRT muslims, going not only against the spirit of the Indian constitution, but also the secular fabric of the Indian civilization. Here is a sample:

"We need a collective mindset as Hindus to stand against the Islamic terrorist... If any Muslim acknowledges his or her Hindu legacy, then we Hindus can accept him or her as a part of the Brihad Hindu Samaj (greater Hindu society) which is Hindustan."

"Others, who refuse to acknowledge this, or those foreigners who become Indian citizens by registration, can remain in India but should not have voting rights (which means they cannot be elected representatives)."
