It seems like many threads nowadays end with a comment "We'll nuke you", "We should Nuke US" or "We'll Nuke you right back". I don't think we should let that be the last word. As a backup plan, I am starting a thread on surviving a nuclear war.

We'll discuss how to cook food using woodfire, scavenge wild animals and delicious methods of making cockroach soup (Cockroaches will survive a nuclear war apparently and have a lot of delicious chitin).

(Note to those who think I am crazy or for those who are humor impaired : Sorry, this thread is only half serious. I really, really hope nothing of the sort happens. On the other hand, the information that I post at least will be borderline factual or deliberately built on borderline facts)

Plan B for Indians.

Pakistan Missile Arsenal

According to the map a couple of Indian cities may be just out of reach of Pak missiles. So on the news of Nukes being launched, move to Trivandrum, Rameshwaram or Andaman.

Trivandrum also has an airport and a rocket launching station (Tumba). So if you hate Trivandrum too much, there is an option of taking a flight out to gulf or even a moonshot. Rameshwaram provides easy accessibility to Sri Lanka as long as the Ram Sethu remains in place. Sri Lanka also gives visa to Indians at the port of arrival. so no need to trek upto Chennai for getting Visa processed and soil your shirt with Nuclear dust.

Andaman is the nice land of tropical forests with lots of edible critters. The Cellular jail (which still stands) provides excellent nuclear cover. The tribals of that area are cut-off from civilization and can teach you how to hunt, make fire etc.

It is also possible that lakshadweep might be missed by Pakistan (too small to hit). You can take the ship MV Tipu Sultan which has weekly service from Cochin to Lakshadweep - tickets cost only Rs100 or so. The island has enough coconuts and fish to support human life for a while.

Again, the tip of Arunachal Pradesh will be out of reach of Pakistan. And considering the nuclear fallout, China might just disclaim that part after a nuke disaster. So the land of the rising sun might just be the place for you. Getting there is difficult, but IAF often takes civilians onboard their military aircraft to that area.

Pakistan has limited option due to narrow size of the country. But since India claims whole of J&K, and since India won't nuke its own territory, the smartest thing to do would be to move to parts of Kashmir under Pakistan control. There might be a bunch of Indians who got there trying to avoid Pakistan nukes, but everyone can probably get by on the pure glacial water and pure green grass that grows there.

Another possibility is to move to Afghanistan (squeeze between the hundreds of Indian consulates along the border forming a Chinese wall along Durand line- they are all filled with R& AW agents). Moving North might work as long as Taliban sides with you (Hint: Don't take Zardari along).

And since Microwave ovens, Gas stoves etc. are going to be difficult to come by, cooking of course will have to be done on a wood fire. People will also have to live on wild berries and animals, but they are quite edible if proper precautions are taken.
Here is a list from US govt. authorities themselves.

DNR - Precautions When Processing Wild Game

They talk about using Latex gloves and washing hands with soap which are the only difficult to procure items (other than a thermometer), but otherwise things should be a walk in the park.

thanks wtf for this thread...
the trivandrum plan dose not work... i think nukes will be short notice,
so need a shelter near by.
following can be done
educate people about the real danger
have nuke drills, like the fire drills in public and private offices, media could spread some knowledge.

.
though i seriously believe the real danger is dirty bomb.....
we don't have scanners to scan radioactive materials on our port, forget about any intelligence input.... so here goes the dirty bomb with conventional explosives....
how will the news spread??? media??? will our cops understand what happened??? is our weather department issuing inputs which way air flows the radioactive dust??? the situation is real and fatal to both sides.

Fire drills won't work. What would we do after the fires have stopped ? The air will be full of nuclear waste and radiation for another 10-20 years. We can't store food for 20 years in an underground shelter.

Maybe if the Iran gas pipeline is still left alone, some could crawl through it to Iran or something. It will be an underground pipe and have high lead content and so safe from Nuclear debris.

Why does he want the money just before a nuclear attack ? Was his name Bombproof Billy or something ?

what if we go in for the first strike????? do our neta's have the BALLS??
yeh I know about the NO FIRST USE.... but what really defines the FIRST STRIKE :smokin:

I am working from the assumption that all regions within range of missiles are nuked out - both India and Pakistan. If any Nukes are left over, Pakistan can use it in Afghanistan and India in China. If there are still more missiles left they'll be sold on ebay to the highest bidder.

Assuming that India strikes first totally messes up my backup plan. So in true PDF tradition, I'll ignore that option.

Which gives me a brilliant idea -- Myanmar is so poor that no one is going to bomb them. So maybe some Indians can migrate there. If Bangladesh is OK, some probably can go there too.

Excellent. We should start teaching that game in kindergartens. Atleast the future generation will be fully prepared.

But wait, you are in Canada ? Sorry, you can't prepare with us. Nuke plans for Canada are not yet ready. Wait another 20 years before India or Pakistan gets missiles with that range.
