Surgical strike on Pak terrorists not first time

New Delhi :
Former Home Minister P Chidambaram has gone on record to assert that the much-hyped surgical strike for punitive action against the terrorists crossing the Line of Control last Wednesday night was not for the first time.

He says a similar “major strike took place in January 2013, when the UPA government was in power but it chose not to go public in keeping with its policy of strategic restraint.”

He says it would be premature to describe the strike as a “paradigm shift” in the country’s policy towards Pakistan as claimed by the government. “We need to evaluate over a period of time whether this leads to a decline in cross border terror and deters Pakistan, before passing any judgment,” Chidambaram asserted, adding that in any case the government will have to own up the consequences of its decision.

He, however, made it clear that the Congress is fully behind the Modi government on the issue nd will continue to support it in the matters related to nation’s security.

Meanwhile, the retired Army generals say the Indian Army has been carrying out attacks on the Pakistan Army and the terrorist camps consequent to Islamabad’s continuing proxy war in Jammu and Kashmir. They cited one such attack on the Pakistani post across the Line of Control (LoC) 17 years ago, just six months after the Kargil wear, on January 22, 2000 in which 16 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the Chhamb sector.

They said the Pakistan Army too has been carrying out similar attacks on the Indian positions after cross the LoC. These trans-LoC attacks by both Armies stopped for a while after the November 2003 ceasefire, but there have been occasions even after the ceasefire when the India conducted retaliatory attacks across LoC such as one in response to decapitation of two Indian soldiers by the Pakistan Army in January 2013.

The Indian Army reportedly beheaded some five to 10 Pakistani soldiers in retaliation. The retired Army officers say it is for the first time that the government has officially acknowledged what the Indian Army has been doing for many years now by going public on the shallow-distance strikes carried out in the wee hours of September 29.

The strikes directly against the terrorists and not against the Pakistan Army has made known India’s resolve and capability to cross the LoC to strike at the terrorists at will, they said.

Most of these retirees want the government to make it a policy to conduct the preemptive surgical strikes on Pakistani terror factories on a relentlessly continuous basis to truly make it expensive for the terrorists and its Pakistani patrons. They said prevention, rather than cure, is ideally the answer to the problem but this requires both human and electronic intelligence to obtain real time actionable information. They say the well-equipped Special Forces will have to be on permanent stand-by to work in conjunction with the intelligence agencies.
Can you please brief me about the surgical strike's outcomes ??.........
Well if i am not wrong in my opinion these wrongly quoted surgical strikes were in reaction of uri attack which left 18 to 20 indian soldiers dead but my question is how come terrorist been able to attack Baramulla when according to your sources their launch pads were destroyed .....
Isn't this is showing failure of achieving required objectives behind surgical strikes ?

.
Pakistan Army knows it that recent surgical strikes are not the first time. Where is was stumped was when India publicly announced that India conducted the strikes and owned up.

So how many thousand militants were killed by "Hanuman" army in previous surgical strikes?

There is no twist, cross border operations are not new to both countries, the only reason this govt. went public is cuz of public anger and need of the hour for overt actions.

More like an physiological effect than changing ground realities much.

It's just a media stunt.
Nothing less, nothing more.

That was after the beheading of one of our soldiers. The army chief of that time did say that they had avenged his death. So it was not exactly a secret but the govt chose to remain silent. The shift in policy is not the attack itself but the acknowledgement that it happened. Isn't it ironic that Pakistan is trying to prove that it did not happen instead of accusing India of aggression which is what they usually do?

Were those heads returned?

India is doing these surgical strikes using special forces during the last decades. But they were not made public.

Yesterday on timesnow Maroof Raza said Video will be made public soon...!!

Not one like this, they were smaller. Certainly not in multiple locations at the same time.

Smaller ones have happened for ages, going back to the 1990's. Never owned, mainly tactical at local commanders level & almost never connected to the political leadership.

This should be the correct statement

Isn't this is showing failure of achieving required objectives behind surgical strikes ?

The terrorist attack at Baramulla was carried out by already infiltrated chaps.Baramulla is too far away from the LC for someone to have crossed over & attacked immediately.

The destruction of launch pads in itself is not about to stop infiltration, these weren't the only launch pads & they can quickly be up & running again, even hitting the much larger terror camps can at best be a momentary setback, as long as there is supply of men & availability of those training them. The strikes are more in a nature of warning & changing the environment in which such operations have been carried out. As long as no one was worried about Indian retaliation, one could allow for much lighter forces to be deployed with many others being relocated to the western border or in internal; deployments. There is already been a change in PA deployment , with more forces being moved towards the LC to close up gaps as far as possible.

Yes this time they hit many launch pads.

I usually ignore low substance or troll posts but I will tell you onething. I am not from the lot of uninformed troll keyword warriors, blatantly twisting the statements and trying to save the pride(which is already non existent).

I barely watch any Indian news channel and never believe in what they or politicians say. I have confirmed about this strike from as high as former second in command in Indian Airforce in an off the record discussion as he happens to live nearby my house.

You can twist, celebrate laugh or whatever if you are just another keyboard warrior out there or if you are from the informed one you know the reality.

The problem in accepting the strike is it will not just expose the shallow claims of your army (which is not a big deal, they already got lot of embarrassment before) but also your larger than life General who happen to claim to defend every inch of your soil just a day before this. Cross border raids is not new phenomenon for both India and Pakistan, they did it before multiple times, both of them.

Pakistan will try to retaliate and they will succeed for sure, not in a week but in coming months cuz you can never have this level of alertness on border 24*7*365 and the same will be avenged again all covertly. This is the way it is happening from long, the only reason it became public was public pressure and nothing more.

You have never seen the video of OBL raid, the only photo they released later tried was discredited by some conspiracy theorists. See the pic below:

See the pic here as it contains little graphic (must see, it not that graphic after all):

Even if they release the video people can call it fake, just like some fools still believe that there was no moon landing by US and it was a fake video. So in all probability video will never be released but may be sometime later when the tensions goes down some source will leak a pic or two.

I haven't seen @PARIKRAMA or @Joe Shearer views on that or may be someone else who is related to Indian Army can tell you truth off the record cuz nobody want to waste their time with trolls here who dont even understand English. Also I will be traveling soon to meet my best buddy who happens to be in Indian Army, high up in Chain to not talk about this but a lot about previous operations and what exactly happens in Kashmir behind the scenes. I will try to publish the transcript on the forum but I may have to censor few thing (though I will try not to).

I have told some very respectable and senior Pakistani member on board, but most of the information was from yet another member who has been giving us hour-by-hour accounts. That Pakistani member and I have both written our minimalist narrations on PDF.

Do not publish gory pictures like that. I suggest that even now, before it is too late, go back and edit your post.

Bollywood much?

No, not much. We no longer have much money, and the industry is practically bust. Watch Lollywood instead; far more inspiring.

This should be the correct statement

He says a similar “major strike took place in January 2013, when the UPA government was in power but it chose not to go public in keeping with its policy of Cowardness .”

A disgraceful post.

Strikes across the LoC are common. India has been using commandos. The other side has been using mujahids.

The main difference with this Indian response was the public admission. The Govt. was under tremendous pressure.
