Knowing that citizens can file complaints with our Honourable Federal Ombudsman against the Banking Court, High Courts/Supreme Courts, Majlis-e-Shoora (is this institution alive?), National Assembly gives, to this senior citizen, a unique type of pride that how strongly our Government is keen in delivery of justice in Pakistan. True justice on the universal doctrine “on principles of natural justice”. And, as it appears, that is why our government has made our Federal Ombudsman so strong in terms of his so enlarged jurisdiction. In simple words, to a commoner like me, it means that our Federal Ombudsman has jurisdiction over the above named institutes. Justice as per universal doctrine namely “justice on principles of natural justice” though in practice does no exist today in our beloved motherland, yet it is really a matter of great pride and a twinkling light and hope in the present time complete darkness encircling the country that we have such a strong Ombudsman system with whom any complaints relating even to the courts can be filed. Once the then Federal Ombudsman Mr. Justice Usman Ali Shah on return from abroad after attending an international ombudsman conference, told the press that he was thought of abroad as a “Super” Ombudsman. I don’t know if that status of “super” today rests with us or not, but I am inclined to take it that our’s honourable Federal Ombudsman has the most extended jurisdiction.
