The Sudanese army repelled an attack of the Ethiopian army in the border area of El Fashaga in El Gedaref on Sunday, the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) said in a statement yesterday.

According to the SAF statement, the Ethiopian army attacked the El Anfal SAF base on the eastern bank of the Atbara River in El Fashaga locality on Sunday afternoon.

SAF troops “caused the aggressors great casualties and repelled them”.

The statement reported that the military leadership of both countries are in direct contact. They agree that both parties must show restraint and continue the dialogue.

The SAF statement affirmed the right of the Sudanese armed forces to defend the Sudanese territory by all legitimate means.

Last month, Ethiopian gunmen, called shifta in the area, killed a Sudanese army captain and wounded three people, including one woman. The Sudanese army claimed that the gunmen were supported by hundreds of soldiers of the Ehtiopian army.

A few days later the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs offered its condolences to “the families of the victims of both countries”. It urged the two countries “to work together through existing military mechanisms to investigate the circumstances of the accident with the spirit of containing the situation on the ground and avoiding any additional tension”.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not deny in its statement that Ethiopian soldiers crossed the border with Sudan and killed a Sudanese officer and wounded several people.

That same week at least 5,000 Sudanese fled the border area.

Last week, Deputy Chairman of the Sovereign Council and Commander of the Rapid Support Forces Mohamed Hamdan ‘Hemeti’ visited the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to discuss bilateral issues, among which the building of the Renaissance Dam in the Blue Nile by Ethiopia.

Muslims good for killing each other while their real enemies thrive. What a disgrace this ummah has become.

maybe sudan can get their soldiers out of yemen and go take care of their own business...

after what sudanese troops did to yemen, Its hard to feel sorry for them.

Just replace Sudan word with Iran and you'll get the truth right..

And those Ethiopians have attacked all their neighbours many times.. Including Sudan..
But Sudan have teached them lessons in the past.. And all these Attacks now aim to not let Sudan side with Egypt on the Dam affair.. but to no avail..These pressure tactics won't work..it is clear..

what Iranian troops have you seen fighting in Yemen?

sudan has sent uniformed regulars to fight on behalf of saudi arabia. serving as front line cannon fodder and suffering huge casualties. for bribes into the generals pockets.

fighting the poor on his own land on behalf of the rich.

disgusting.

In Ethiopia Muslims are a minority.
Nope, the majority are Muslims. The largest ethnic groups are the Oromos who are Muslims followed by Afar, Somali, Benishangul-Gomez, Harari and some minor ethnic groups. They hold 75% of the territories (mostly Somalis).

While the Christians are predominately inhabited in the northern Highland region and they’re ethnic Tigray (leading the country) and Amharans who also have 15 million Muslims. Of course, the ethnic Tigrayan Christians would hide the statistics for politicial reason but everyone in the Horns sees it as Muslim majority country.

Nope, the majority are Muslims but lost control of their region in the 1920s when the country was formed with British help. Ethiopia's total population is 100m+, So how is 15m NOT a minority?

Re-read my quote, I’m refering that number to the predominately Christian Amharans alone to give you a perspective.

Muslims are much higher than 50%, the majority who are ethnic Oromos followed by the big 5 and 75% of the territories are Muslims as shown in the map. Everyone in the region knows Christians inhabite in the northern Highland region (Tigray and Amhara).

Ethiopia is not a homogenious country like many people outside think but federal ethnic based. It’s portrayed as a Christian country when in reality it isn’t and it’s mostly because the Muslims (apart from Ethio-Somali PM) don’t hold any real political power.

Egypt used to support these Muslim ethnicities (very pro-Arab due to religion) in the 1880s war and the 1970s-1990s hoping they could take over but failed. They’ll probably try again as an aim to destabilize and Balkanize Ethiopia and use them to control the region just like the Ottomans then later Pasha era Egypt did.
