India’s submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) is ready for production. Its pre-production test flight on Wednesday from a pontoon off the coast of Visakhapatnam was successful.

The missile is ready for integration with the country’s nuclear submarine ‘INS Arihant’. The capability puts India among the elite club of nations possessing such weapons. These include the US, Russia, France, UK, Israel and China.

The underwater-launched ballistic missile was tested for the minimum range as per the requirement of the user. It achieved all its objectives, said Avinash Chander, Chief Controller R&D (Missiles & Strategic Systems).

The missile system for the nuclear-powered Arihant platform will give the country the complete cycle of possessing options to deploy nuclear weapons from air, land and under sea. This is the tenth flight test of the missile.

The missile has a maximum range of 700 km , according to defence experts.

^^^ Israel and UK don't have SLBM.

Israel doesn't need to, since they don't have enemies capable of a devastating first strike. Yet.

UK does, but imported from the USA. Trident.

What I meant was that both of them has not developed an SLBM till now.

UK definitely has trident III SLBM. India has the distinction of having short range SLBM though. even though its no where ready.

Trident is an american SLBM .

Range of missiles are based on threat perceptions not by δick measuring contests .

From OP , K15's pre-production test flight on Wednesday from a pontoon off the coast of Visakhapatnam was successful

Since the missiles are under UK command, they are UK's SLBM. By your reason, India has no airplane as SU30-MKI is a
Russian plan. But we all know that India paid lots of money to the Russians for them.

K15 never was tested on Arihant. So we still do not know if this missile can be fired off a sub yet. Otherwise, this is PLSM, Platform launched ballistic missile, not a SLBM.

We are talking about countries capable of developing SLBMs not operating it.

For that you have to understand the similarity of underwater pontoon test and test from sub.

You posted "Israel and UK don't have SLBM", this is about possession, not building.

There are similarities but underwater pontoon is still not the real deal. to verify, you need launch from the sub.

so its not just the Indian media, but average Indians like to count the chicken before they are hatched. As demonstrated by the Indian members here.

To me, the first test is not done until its tested from a moving SSBN.
