  • Stray dogs with blue fur have been spotted on streets of Mumbai, India

  • The emergence of the blue dogs has been linked to pollution of a local river

  • Water in the Kasadi River has long been deemed unfit for human consumption

  • Animal protection officers urge officials to act on companies dumping waste

Handfuls of blue dogs are turning heads on the streets of Mumbai, local animal protection officers report.

Their change in appearance has been linked to the pollution of a local river where the animals swim and look for food.

Industrial waste is being pumped into the Kasadi River in Navi Mumbai, next to the Maharashtra state capital in Western India, and the water has long been deemed unfit for human consumption.

Animal protection officers are now urging local officials to act on companies dumping waste in the river after an increase in reports of blue dogs.

'It was shocking to see how the dog's white fur had turned completely blue,' animal protection officer Arati Chauhan said.

OMG it's BLUE :o:

what the hell

utter nonsense.

no animal can survive poisoning to an extent that its skin color has changed. Looks like it got painted

Not sure if true, but pollution is a major issue in India which their civil society is trying hard to handle and is facing both ignorance and opposition from the uneducated & the powerful who have vested interests to protect.

It seems real. Since the news appears on many websites. But I think the dog's skin colour change to BLUE because the pollutant sticks to it's skin. Not because the dog drink the polluted water.
