Starlink, the satellite internet division of billionaire Elon Musk's rocket company SpaceX, now has more than 2,50,000 users across 25 countries globally.

"Over 250k Starlink user terminals," Musk said in a tweet on Tuesday.

The terminals will keep on growing, and Musk said that in order to better internet connections, Starlink would need to upgrade its ground stations and other functions.

Until November 2021, SpaceX had added roughly 11,000 users per month since beginning service in October 2020.

Too costly. We have cheaper and better alternatives. Could be used for remote areas but still wont get popular in South Asia
Better alternatives? mind mentioning those reliable alternatives?

I have personally used this when I was in India.

There is a Pan india service offered by Railways by collaborating with local Cable tv operators

Do you even know what you are comparing Starlink with? Starlink is a satellite-based internet, unlike the conventional ISPs you are mentioning here. Starlink can transmit the internet in the remotest areas where there is not even electricity.

I know, there’s an Indian company Airtel already in partnership with OneWeb for the same satelite internet. However internet connection is an internet connection and it doesn’t really matter from where it is coming. Most Indians won’t even bother using starlink when optical fibres are doing the job much better.

By definition less people live in remote areas than in cities and even well connected villages.

In rural China and I believe it is the same in rural India and Pakistan, you actually are not too far from other people. Villages are maybe 5-10 km apart and are relatively large settlements. It isn't like North America where rural small towns can be the only settlement within 100+ km.

We have ordered a Starlink location point in our rural village home in the middle of the countryside in Bangladesh. Really excited to see what speeds it can achieve.
