SriLankan Airlines, one of the largest foreign carriers operating in India, has reduced its flights to Chennai by half. This is after the news about some incidents of violence against Lankan nationals in Tamil Nadu, according to a report from Colombo.

According to news reports from there, the airline has decided to reduce the frequency of weekly flights to Chennai from 28 to 14 from Thursday. Earlier, the Sri Lankan External Affairs Ministry issued a cautionary travel advice for nationals going to Tamil Nadu.

There have been reports of Buddhist monks from Lanka being manhandled by unknown groups in Chennai, as part of the rising protest after the circulation of photographs of slain separatist leader V Prabhakaran's 12-year old son, supposed to have been taken hours before and just after the latter's death.

Ashok K Kantha, high commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, had in his message on the occasion of India's 64th Republic Day this year, said: "Sri Lankan Airlines is one of the largest foreign airlines operating in India and over 250,000 Sri Lankans visited India last year."

Hopefully, they can cut down more flights across India. Regional carriers will have an opportunity to consolidate their markets with SL air cutting operations.

Besides, SL airline management has gone to the dogs. They are cutting out the good managers in top management and replacing them with Rajapakshe's relatives and family.

Not to mention, bad service and overpriced tickets. International carriers like emirates offer cheaper but better service for much less.

It would be very entertaining to see how SL air survives without the Indian market though.

If you can't offered SriLankan airlines, there are plenty of other carriers.

Its not a case of affordability at all. Its a case of mismanagement and lack of value for money.

This is a good thing for Indian carriers by the way.
