SAARC was never useless. Inclusion of a middle eastern/Central Asian (wannabe?) state in a South Asian union was, on the other hand.actually this is good if it led to Dissolution of SAARC it was pretty Useless anyway.
We aren't boycotting it. We are unhappy with the situation and considers the "Atmosphere to be unsuitable for the SAARC summit"
http://www.dailymirror.lk/116641/SL-says-atmosphere-not-conducive-to-hold-SAARC-Summit
The summit should be postponed unless the situation de-escalates really quickly which I doubt.
They have diplomatically conveyed what they needed to.Again they have expressed that it's not conductive to hold the summit now, Which is the facts on the ground, They never mentioned they're boycotting the summit nor have they condemned any side for the situation other than terrorism, All types of terrorism in all manifestations which means any country in the region including India
Indian media should need not construe this as anything else
Why should it keep quiet this is a official statement from the govt of SL, They have to release official media statements with regards to something important.. Are you even aware of protocol ?? And neither is it condemning any country nor is it taking any side.. Unlike Bhutan or Bangladesh
Ofcause you're overestimating the influence of India with regards to this statement and making out things which is clearly not there
SL interests lie in trade not with any particular country, As far as geo politics go India should realize that even strategically it comes second to China in both SL and Maldives, But then again thats another subject for us to get in to in another thread

Sri Lanka’s participation in the 19th SAARC Summit scheduled for November 2016 in Islamabad
Sri Lanka regrets that the prevailing environment in the region is not conducive for holding the 19th SAARC Summit in Islamabad on 9th and 10th November 2016.
The General Provisions of the SAARC Charter require that decisions at all levels shall be taken on the basis of unanimity, and this applies to the convening of meetings of Heads of State or Government of SAARC Member States as well.
Peace and security are essential elements for the success of meaningful regional cooperation for the benefit of the people of South Asia. As a founding member of SAARC, committed to regional cooperation, Sri Lanka hopes that the steps required to ensuring our region’s peace and security will be taken to create an environment that is conducive for the pursuit of regional cooperation.
Sri Lanka condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and stresses in this regard, the need to deal with the issue of terrorism in the region in a decisive manner.

What a horrible development.
Niaz Sahib was right, as he almost always is; we are not mature enough, we were not ready to form SAARC.
They have diplomatically conveyed what they needed to.
India, Bangladesh and Afghanistan have all cited 'terrorism' as the cause behind not attending the event.
If SL wanted to remain completely neutral they would not have additionally used the word terrorism and instead just used the phrase that they already had - that the atmosphere is not conducive right now.
You are trying to make it completely neutral whereas GoSL in diplomatese has conveyed the point intended at Pakistan while being courteous seeing as they donot have as bad relations with Pakistan as the rest of us do.
The General Provisions of the SAARC Charter require that decisions at all levels shall be taken on the basis of unanimity, and this applies to the convening of meetings of Heads of State or Government of SAARC Member States as well.
Union's current presiding nation Nepal didnt say anything until now nor Maldives.
Then why the SL?
SL never pulled out of the summit, Stop making up stories just like Indian sensationalist media, They have only mentioned it's not conductive to have it under current circumstances, Which is a fact, they have not sided with any party and have only condemned all types of terrorism, That means terrorism originate from anywhere including India, SL or Pakistan
