Sri Lanka softens its stance on China port city deal

Not trying to sugercoat the so called western "free media".. But in this case i think more than the western media it's the Indian media that is having orgasms.. Any way usually sensationalist, they have gone over board with this thing unnecessarily over hyping an alleged Indian role in regime change to counter balance Chinese influence.. Quite hilarious

I'm in India for past 8 months and believe me there English news channels are piece of crap. After 4 months I decided to unsubscribe from all Indian news channels and started watching CCTV, BBC and CNN. There an't 1 Indian channel which promoted friendship among their own citizens or India's neighbours. Pakistan is treated like Somalia, China is treated like an Alien invasion, totally hopeless

Very true.. Though i'm a advocate of free media in reality there is nothing as such.. Indian media are overly sensationalist, With very few exceptions like The Hindu publication almost all the others are tabloids or bordering on tabloids.. Especially TV networks.. This is even acknowledged by Indians themselves but sadly only when it comes to negative portrayal of India.. If not they more or less glee on negative portrayal of their neighbors,However over hyped it may be.. Most of them any ways, It reflects in the forum as well

From my first hand experience is Indian media creates this huge fear psychosis specially against China, On the contrary Chinese media have little or no regard to India .. Exceptions are some Chinese posters here on PDF who clearly does not reflect main stream.. Fear sells, Just ask the Americans

I think its unfair to expect to abandon China...when India in itself is trying to have a good relationship with China then why India will expect the same thing from others...But the caveat here is not about trade relatonship..rather using trade as a means to establish military related stuff to monitor South India and its naval bases through Colombo. I think that this is the anxiousness of Indian Gov wrt to Sri Lanks...Otherwise, each nation in South Asia should adopt and try all means to develop their nation....It is a welcome initiative....South Asia is always lagging behind in the growth in comparison to other region of this world...

You are right about Chinese media have little or even no regard to India.

Whether it's good or bad I don't know, but Chinese just ignore India in almost all circumstances be it economy, tech, social, culture, sports, military or politics.

Pakistan is dependent on China because of terror issues and India but why would Sri Lanka join Chinese club o_O ??.

Why should Sri Lanka spoil her relationship with India which is more important than China? Economically, India is Sri Lanka's largest trade partner.

According to International press, Mr. X-Sri Lank president invited China because of international isolation but now it's gone due to Government change which means China lost it's trump card.
And why are the affairs of Srilanka bothering a Singaporean in the first place, who has even taken the trouble of mentioning my own country?

because I'm working in Singtel India and Defence.pk is a good source of information about Asian( India, China ) political atmosphere.

As I expected. We have watched the same theatre take place before in many African countries that underwent color revolution, and we know exactly how to play our part :)

What revolution the people of SL chose a new leader in the election & that was it,there was absolutely no revolution & no one was removed from power by colluding with the Principal Opposition
Nothing happened just a normal election, that's all

But you already got your color revolution and removed Chinese influence. After all, Indian media had a field day boasting of the efficacy of RAW in subverting the sovereignty and meddling in the affairs of countries in "India's backyard". If at this point, they still choose to engage China economically, we must assume they did so of their own free will, and completely in their own national interests.

The original report was posted by a Anti-Indian SL paper & later that thing snow balled becuz our Media Picked it up
We had absolutely nothing to do with anything in SL

They played their hand badly, again.

The truth is that we win contracts because we have the most experience in building infrastructure in the developing world, and our $4 trillion currency reserves means we can give out loans at the cheapest rates of interest.

Same with our products, we win because we are the most competitive. Nobody buys our products as a favor to us, they do it because we provide the best value for money.

Who played their hand Badly ??

So i assume you are staying in India or are you staying in Singapore

To be honest, I have never seen such an aggressive PRC like in PDF. I have many PRC friends back in SG and China but they are totally different.

In SG, there is a famous quote, " There are two types of PRC 1) More Work and less noise 2) More noise and No WORK"

Everybody in South Asian wants to take down the elephant! Indians are backstabbers cannot be trusted.

After so much boasting from Indians, the new Sri Lanka government is ready to invite PLAN carrier battlegroups. They will open the third front against India together with China and Pakistan.

that is never going to happen.

It only says 'renegotiate' instead 'scrapping'. and alread chinese members going gaga. SL govt know scrapping means inviting legal trouble

Prime minister didn't say that he would abandon the project. He said that his government would evaluate how it would affect the environment becsuse the previous government did not follow the procedures before starting the project. Indian media as usual sensationalise every bit of information.

This government didn't come as a result of their foreign policy. It was Rajapaksha's failures that led to his downfall. He was confident that there would be no one to challenge him in the foreseeable future so he and his children/relatives indulged in all sorts of luxuries. What's funny is that his brothers went to US (a country that they claim to be conspiring against them) after MR lost the election.

I don't think even the Rajapaksha cheerleader here believes in what he says. He's here to exploit the conditions on this forum to gather some support for MR.
