Sri Lanka lifts unofficial ban on singing national anthem in Tamil

Why the hell SL need two national anthems when Tamils gonna sing the Sinhalese one at International and national events? Can't the Tamils be satisfied of the single anthem? Are they ashamed of Sinhalese altogether?

Tamils should first realize that Sri Lanka's majority is Sinhalese and Sinhalese are the dominant factor in decision making. Then there should be no confusion and guilty feeling singing the Sinhalese anthem. India has a one national anthem and it is sung in Bengali language. No one has ever complained about they can't understand Vanga hence they do not know the meaning of the anthem. It is a utter shame if some one says so. Tamils don't need stupid acts like the OP to feel proud about the country.

Keep in mind. National anthem is as pure as the country itself. If someone molest it, that is a offence as grave as molesting the country.

Who ever did it before and when ever it happen. That is wrong. Sri Lanka only need one national anthem.

Take a good look at this.. Dont make idiotic unnecessary fuss when there is no need to make.. I'm as patriotic as any body.. Nobody has given you the sole authority on what patriotism needs to be.. And it's what we need to provide the Tamil speaking population of the country as well.. Stop croaking like frogs in a well.. Have'nt you'll suffered enough for 30 years on this BS ethno nationalism

Take a very good look..

i don't know why cant they sing national anthem in Sinhalese, when i heard the anthem in a cricket match i could not believe that it is so close to Sanskrit, i could understand over 80% of the anthem, it is so beautiful, and patriotic, i wish India had a more robust patriotic anthem like the Russian one, Indian anthem only praises the different regions of the country, and in it clubs all the south India as Dravidia, but only the Tamils are Dravidia we the people of Andhra, Karnataka, Kerala are forgotten, i still remember the srilankan anthem like it goes as "jaya srilanka maatha .........." in Tamil Nadu all the Sanskrit slokas have been said in Tamil if i go to a Tamil Nadu temple i cannot understand them, and the people are also somewhat rude, it feels like going into an unknown territory, i have no problem in singing the Indian national anthem in Bengali, the only thing matters is the feeling in the heart for your country, and the tamils are verymuch inspired by the joshua project, or the doomsday christians because they dont consider the country they are living as their own country.

Nothing will change dude.. The Tamil version has been sung occasionally for over 60 years in various parts of the country at local gatherings.. Nobody gave a shit because nobody bothered about it.. They're not singing a separate anthem they sing the Tamil version of "Sri Lanka Matha".. No where are they're suggesting to change the versions of the Sinhala mainstream one.. This does not mean they will sing the Tamil version at state and International platforms

A minute matter blown out of proportion as usual.. All these morons who are jumping up and down didnt even know something like this existed not even majority of the Tamils did, Until their stupid bigoted govt suddenly decided to ban it in 2010.. Even that ban is illegal because it contravenes the constitution.. So they are lifting the unofficial restrictions.. THAT IS ALL

Sometimes i think Sri Lankans deserve to be stuck in thier own self created miseries.. They dont seem to learn from history.. Ever

Sri Lanka president has become a puppet of minority and the west.

History does not mend errors. What is wrong is wrong. Besides your point on the National anthem raise another concerns such as why Tamils couldn't come to a reconciliation with Sinhalese for the past years leading until Mahinda Rajapaskaha's unofficial ban? Why suddenly people like you think that Tamils will be more docile if the ban is revoked?

AFAIK you people are not looking to the core of the matter. You are just skimming the surface and make shallow comments. First of all you need to understand the flow of the ethnic crisis. Read this articles by Dr. Dayan Jayathilake.

Everyone should learn from Mandela on how to reconcialiate things instead of showing powers of dominance. If Madiba had followed the ways of Robert Mugabe, SA would have been like Zimbabwe now.

And Sri Lankans barking here should understand it does not promote seccenasim in any way.
And yes , even in TN we have a National Anthem in Tamil, we use it after singing our National Anthem. No need to be naive and stupid like this.

Yet we bengalis are not in majority.....infact bengali is spoken in only a small province in india... why is it always a dominant community has to impose its everything on minorities....?

Thats not how he was born. I am quite sure, if he/they had understood the sensibilities the war would have never taken place. Tamils are living in Malaysia, Singapore, Mauritius, (and have official language status in these countries) and South Africa too, but there are no complaints from any other nations. Only Lankans have a complaint.

You should ask the Malays and Chinese in Malaysia what they think of the Tamils and the Chinese in Singapore what they think of the Tamils. Problem in SL is that Tamils have too many priviledges. If Tamils in SL are unhappy, they are more than welcome to take the next boat/plane back to Tamil Nadu.

That's because Rabindranath Tagore wrote Indian national anthem in his native tongue. And the Indian leaders were grateful enough to ratify it. However Sri Lanka is not a small version of India to compare with. Sri Lanka don't have plethora of languages and communities like India. Therefore in Sri Lanka it is abundantly that clear who is the majority. And there is nothing to impose on any minority in Sri Lanka. I don't know if anything is imposed on minorities in India.

There is only complaints from Sri Lanka is that Sinhalese has allowed too much freedom to the Tamils to enjoy. We should have been as tough as the Malays.

Let's follow Malaysia:

- Strip the Tamil language of official status
- Take the orange stripe off the Sri Lankan flag that represents Tamils
- Dump the Tamil language national anthem in the bin
- Deny any affirmative action for Tamils
- Disallow Tamil to be spoken in parliament
- Disallow Tamil universities
- Ban the propagation of Shaivism (religion followed by Tamils)
- No Tamil to be on Sri Lankan currency notes, postage stamps, aerogrammes, signboards, government buildings.
- No Tamil to be used for announcing on SriLankan Airlines

Yes, the Malaysians have no problems with the Tamils. We should follow their example.

And these ill informed Indians try to equate Sri Lanka to Malaysia.:lol::lol:

I would be pissed if they started new one today, but if they always had, I dont see the problem.. besides the tamils who sing it are patriots unlike those who will probably refuse to sing it.
