Sri Lanka launch first free pre-hospital care ambulance service with Indian grant

Its under an 8 million dollar grant. There really is not much intent to talk about really.

If it was 8 billion, we got a genuine discussion on our hands about the agenda and intent.

The amount is not my concern.

The grant doesnt include the ambulences and the training for EMT Paramedics in GVK EMRI. Its not really a "ambulence service" we got a but a proffesional paramedic and a fully equipped emergency medical service

This is an interview with a Paramedic and Driver of the service. the driver is off duty so he is wearing casual. They talk about two lives they saved from a car accident(very common in Sri Lanka)

when in fact Sri Lankan hospitals are situated not far away from population centers and there aren't any record to justify specialized ambulance service where generally no one died because there were no rapid transportation of the patience to hospitals.

These are called ICU ambulance here.

The 1990 service of SL is based on the 108 service of India

Sri Lankan Government should make some videos like this to educate the public. We have many examples of patients dying when being transported to Hospitals

Sri Lanka has limited service need of such ambulances. It was not necessary to create a separate unit formalize such a service. It should've done through the established system of Sri Lanka. That's what raises concerns.

Why limited?

Actually in India, it works as a separate unit too with a single helpline number. I think it is the same everywhere.

One should not talk without knowing anything about medicine or healthcare.....and don't allow your emotions to cloud your judgement...btw your country can learn a bit from India's 108 service....it has revolutionized the golden hour response in India over the past 5-7 years or so ...and has been a boon to obstetric cases.

Well India has far fewer hospitals and fewer number of the population has access to medical care. It is really well suited for India.

But for Sri Lanka it is not suited. Sri Lanka is very smaller than India, It has a highly developed medical sector and accessibility to proper medical institution with in short time is possible. Therefore such a service is not required in Sri Lanka specially for the west coast.

No offence but clearly your government thinks otherwise, if they accepted and appreciate the gesture.

Sri Lanka has overall medical coverage for it's citizens. Which India clearly doesn't have. Besides that Sri Lankan health service is far ahead for that in India.

Governments can be wrong. Acceptance doesn't mean the initiative is correct.

I have experiance in the many short comings of the Sri Lankan healtcare system. I am critical when it comes to certain things with India but every single argument against this service was proven as basless lies and I have been noting for the need for a such service since a long time. Harsha de Silva did the right thing by requesting this.
If they requested an university there would conspiracy theories like "Raw agent training center" ",brainwashing center" ,"Indian proffesors are going to come" etc etc.

In December, the first Childbirth inside a 1990 service Ambulence happened. The call from the patient came at approx 2.20am in rainy weather.

What are you waiting for Ranil Wickremesinghe? You use your FCID to persecute political rivals, but the biggest robber Sri Lanka has ever seen is sitting right next to you slugging down another shot of arrack at Siri Kotha. Billions of rupees gone. Two inquiries have found Arjuna Mahendran guilty of massive fraud. When are you going to do something about your Royal College buddy?
